
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Set for NSIC Semifinal Matchup with Bemidji State

NSIC Semifinals and Championship Game to be held at Husky Stadium
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 1-seed St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-3-2, 10-2-2) is set to host No. 4-seed Bemidji State (10-3-6, 7-3-4 NSIC) for an NSIC Tournament semifinal matchup on Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium. It marks the first time in program history the NSIC semifinals and championship game will be hosted in St. Cloud.
No. 6-seed UMary and No. 7-seed Concordia-St. Paul will face off in the other semifinal match, which will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. CT at Husky Stadium. The championship game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Husky Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY
St. Cloud State enters the NSIC Tournament contest with a 6-11-3 mark all-time against Bemidji State with its last win against the Beavers coming on Nov. 13, 2019, a 1-0 win in Bemidji. Earlier this season, the Beavers beat the Huskies, 2-0, on Sept. 17 in Bemidji.
SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
St. Cloud State clinched the NSIC Regular Season Championship with its win over Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 2, marking its first conference championship in program history. The Huskies finished the conference regular season with 32 points (10-2-2), finishing one point ahead of Minnesota State (31 points, 9-1-4). The Huskies also matched season program records for wins and conference wins with 13 and 10, respectively.
The Huskies beat Minnesota Duluth, 1-0, on Monday, Nov. 6, marking the fourth time in program history the Huskies have hosted an NSIC First Round match. With the win, the Huskies advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history (2009, 2011, 2019) and for the first time since 2019. The Huskies have been to one NSIC championship game before, reaching the final two in 2011.
REGIONAL RANKINGS
St. Cloud State was ranked second in the central region of the NCAA Women's Soccer Regional Rankings, as announced on Nov. 8. The Huskies are the highest-ranked and one of six NSIC teams ranked, joining Minnesota State (No. 3), Northern State (No. 7), Augustana (No. 8), Bemidji State (No. 9) and Minnesota Duluth (No. 10).
The Huskies seem to be in-line for their first NCAA Tournament berth in program history, as they have already surpassed its win total and conference win total from a season ago and have many other program records with post season play still to-go.
CENTRAL REGION RANKINGS (D-II record, In-Region record, as of Nov. 5)
The NCAA Women's Soccer selection show will be streamed online on Monday, Nov. 13 at NCAA.com at 5:30 p.m. (CT). The first/second round matches of the regional tournament will take place on campus on November 16-19 while third/quarterfinal rounds will be contested at campus sites on November 30-December 3. The 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Semifinal and Championship will take place on December 7 & 9 at Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, North Carolina; hosted by Wingate University.
HISTORIC SEASON IN PROGRESS
St. Cloud State's historic 2023 season continues during postseason play, as the Huskies have already set a program record for most wins with 14. and matched a program record for most conference wins with 10. They also matched a program record for unbeaten streak at nine with its run of 8-0-1 between Sept. 22 and Oct. 20. Below is a list of program records that could be set in 2023 (bold if matched or set already).
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION AGAINST CROOKSTON
St. Cloud State's offense exploded in its regular season finale against Minnesota Crookston, winning 6-0 on Nov. 2 to clinch its first conference championship in program history. The six goals scored are the most in a game since scoring seven in a 7-0 win over Minnesota Crookston on Sept. 14, 2008.
Ellie Primerano and sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) led the offensive charge for the Huskies in the victory, as Primerano scored two goals and had two assists for six points, while Quam added a goal and three assists for five points. SCSU set numerous season single-game highs in the victory, including points (20), goals (six), assists (eight), shots (34), shots on goal (19) and corner kicks (19).
With six points in the game (2g/2a), Primerano became the 17th player in program history to record six or more points in a game and the first since Maria Kass did so in 2016. Her six points put her in a 13-way tie for the fifth-most points in a single game in program history. Primerano's pair of goals marked her first career multi-goal game. Quam had three assists in the game, becoming the ninth player in program history to record three or more assists in the game and the first since 2008 when Chelsey Scheller recorded four assists.
ALL-NSIC RECOGNITION
St. Cloud State Women's Soccer was well recognized in the end-of-season Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) awards, as the league announced its selections on Thursday. Head Coach Gretta Macdonald was named the NSIC Coach of the Year while freshman forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) was named the NSIC Freshman of the Year. Additionally, SCSU had a league-high eight Huskies earn all-conference honors, with four being named to the first team and four earning second team honors.
Macdonald's Coach of the Year honor marks the first time an SCSU coach has earned the conference's top coaching honor. Trapino is the fourth Husky to be named conference Freshman of the Year, following Elizabeth Kelly (2006 NCC), Tara Evangelist (2008 NSIC) and Mary Morhardt (2009 NSIC). Earning first team honors for the Huskies was sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.), sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.), freshman defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) and junior defender Rheana Zerna (St. Michael, Minn.). NSIC Second Team honors went to freshman goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio), Trapino, redshirt junior midfielder Gracie Parsons (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa).

With its third win this season over Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 6, SCSU advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history and for the first time since 2019. Likely headed for its first NCAA Tournament berth in program history, the Huskies currently rank at No. 2 in NCAA Central Region rankings. SCSU has set numerous program records in 2023, including victories (14), conference wins (10), unbeaten streak (nine) and most home wins (nine), while recording its best 10-game start (7-2-1) in program history and best five-game start (4-1-0) since 2000. Macdonald became SCSU's all-time winningest head coach in 2022 and currently sits at 78-63-26 (.545).
Trapino has been instrumental to the Huskies success this season, earning Freshman of the Year and Second Team honors while scoring seven goals and three assists for 17 points with four game-winning goals on 47 shots and 22 shots-on-goal in 871 minutes on the pitch. Trapino led SCSU and all NSIC freshmen in points (17), goals (seven) and game-winning goals (four), while her four game-winning goals rank second in single season program history. She especially came on strong to end the season, as she scored five goals and three assists for 13 points in the final eight games of the regular season. She was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9 after scoring or assisting on each of SCSU's three goals in victories over Minot State (1-0, Oct. 6) and Mary (2-1, Oct. 8).
SCSU's four selections to the All-NSIC First Team is a program-best, as only twice before (1997 and 2010) have two Huskies earned all-conference first team honors. The quartet of Huskies give SCSU 18 student-athletes to earn first team honors all-time. Primerano has followed up her 2022 NSIC Second Team selection with another impressive campaign in her sophomore season as she has produced four goals and eight assists for 16 points while adding one game-winning goal and 12 shots on goal. Her eight assists already rank eighth all-time on the single season top-10 list in program history. Quam has recorded three goals and an NSIC-leading nine assists for 15 points and ranks second on the team with 21 shots on goal. Her nine assists rank fourth on the single season top-10 list. On the backline, Spaine and Zerna have anchored the Huskies to what would be a program record 0.74 goals-against-average with eight shutouts. Spaine has recorded two goals and two assists for six points with five shots on goal in her freshman campaign while Zerna recorded one assist for the Huskies.
Joining Trapino on the second team is Strickland, Parsons and Olson. Strickland has been very impressive in goal for the Huskies, registering a 13-3-2 record with a 0.72 goals-against average, .833 save percentage and eight shutouts. In the NSIC, she ranks second in goals against average (0.72), third in save percentage (.833) and fourth in shutouts (eight). At season's end, the freshman goalkeeper will enter the program's top-10 list for goalkeeper seasons in program history, as her 0.72 GAA currently ranks first, her eight shutouts rank third and her .814 S% ranks seventh. Parsons has been crucial in her second season at SCSU, recording three goals and three assists for nine points while Olson has been stepped up in her debut campaign with two goals and two assists for six points with two game-winning goals.
