St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Falls in Conference Road Opener

Huskies late push not enough, drop an 83-77 decision to Northern State in Aberdeen
ABERDEEN, S.D. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (4-3, 1-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) dropped its conference road opener against Northern State, 83-77, on Friday at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen. The Huskies matched the scoring output of Northern State in the second half with 42 points, but it wasn't enough because they trailed by six at the break.
The Wolves (4-5, 2-1 NSIC) were powered by the duo of Jacksen Moni and Josh Dilling who, combined, scored 62 of their 83 points. Moni went off for 38 points (11-of-22 field goals, 7-of-9 three pointers and 9-11 free throws) and 16 rebounds and Dilling poured in 24 points (8-of-11 field goals, 5-of-6 three pointers and 3-of-4 free throws).

- Graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) scored a team-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) scored 20 points and shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 from the line in 21 minutes off the bench.
- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored eight points on 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from three. He also contributed five rebounds and two steals.
- The Huskies move to 33-25 all-time against Northern State after the loss.
- SCSU led the game in free-throw percentage (84.6%-69.0%), field goals (28-24), assists (15-10), points in the paint (32-16), fast break points (5-2), and bench points (29-6).
- NSU led the game in field goal percentage (43.6%-42.4%), three-point percentage (46.9%-45.5%), three pointers (15-10), free throws (20-11), steals (6-4), blocks (6-5), points off turnovers (14-8) and second chance points (11-4).
- Taylor scored 10+ points for the 30th time as a Husky and the sixth time this season (fifth game in a row). He set season highs in points (24), minutes played (29), field goals made (10), field goals attempted (16), free throws made (four), free throws attempted (six) and rebounds (seven).
- Willert set season highs in points (20), field goals made (six), field goals attempted (13), three pointers made (three – tie), three pointers attempted (six), free throws made (five) and free throws attempted (five).
- Morgan tied his career-high with two assists in his first career NSIC road game.
- Senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) contributed eight points (3-of-5 field goals, 2-of-4 three pointers) and four assists. He set a new season high with two made three pointers and tied season-highs in field goals made (three), field goals attempted (five) and three pointers attempted (four)
- Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemount, Minn.) recorded a career-high six rebounds in his first career NSIC road game.
- Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) grabbed six rebounds, setting a new career high and blocked the first shot of his collegiate career in his first NSIC road game.
- Graduate student Craig Steele (Portage, Wis.) set new season highs in points (five), minutes (11), three pointers made (one – tie), three pointers attempted (two), free throws made (two), free throws attempted (two) and recorded his first block as a Husky in his first NSIC road game.
- Redshirt sophomore Tony Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) set a new season high, dishing out two assists.
