St. Cloud State Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season with BSU & UMC

Huskies travel to BSU Thursday, hosts UMC Saturday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team will close the regular season with home-and-home matchups. The Huskies will travel up to Bemidji, MN to take on Bemidji State Thursday, Feb. 16 then return home to host Minnesota Crookston, Feb. 18.

Thursday's game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game is set for 5:00 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall. The NSIC Network will provide the game streams while Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of Huskies Basketball, will provide live audio coverage on the Varsity Network App. Live stats will be available on Bemidji State's women's basketball schedule page for Thursday while Saturday's will be available on the SCSU women's basketball schedule page. At the conclusion of Saturday's game, we will be honoring our senior athletes for Senior Day.

A Look Back
Last weekend the Huskies split their matchups with Minot State and UMary. Against Minot State, the Huskies ended the first half of the game down 32-18 following a rough offensive showing. St. Cloud was outscored 17-6 in the first and 15-12 in the second with Minot State holding the lead the entire time. In the third period, the Huskies found themselves down 16 points midway through with the period ended 41-30 Minot State. The fourth period was another story. SCSU opened with a 5-0 run until Minot jumped back up by ten at the 7:17 mark until the Huskies started to rally back. For the next several minutes, SCSU would never cut the lead to less than five until Jada Eggebrecht sank a three to cut the lead to four-points, 55-51, with just over a minute and half left. With 16 seconds left, Eggebrecht sank both her free throws to tie it up 58. Just two seconds left on the clock and a Minot State possession, the Huskies were looking to get a stop to send the game into OT. However, a Minot payer managed to get past under the basket hitting her shot right before the buzzer to end the game.

Against UMary, it was a complete 180 from Friday's game as the Huskies set the pace early in the first several minutes of the opening period. SSCSU went up 9-4 after nailing three threes. The period would end 16-15 after UMary went on an 8-3 run. In the second, SCSU outscored UMary 16-8 to close the half up 32-23. The third period would be scoreless for the first three minutes until the offense picked up the pace to end the period up 42-34 despite UMary outscoring SCSU 11-10. During the fourth, the Marauders cut the lead to 47-42 with 3:31 left until the Huskies kicked it into drive to close out the game 57-45 over UMary.

St. Cloud State Huskies
The Huskies sit 16-8 overall, 13-7 in conference play. St. Cloud currently sits at the number two spot in the north and fourth overall. With one more win, the Huskies will secure the number two seed in the north earning them a bye to the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament. Minnesota Duluth is locked into the number one sport in the north and is on its way to win the conference.
5th-year senior forward Katrina Theis and freshman Jada Eggebrecht are the Huskies leading front. Theis is averaging 16.2 points while Eggebrecht averages 13.2 points per game. Tori Peschel is the team's leader in the rebounding department with 202 total rebounds this season averaging 8.4 per game. Additionally, Peschel is 2nd in the NSIC for rebounding and has the best assist/turnover ratio in the conference with a 2.4.

Bemidji State Beavers
Bemidji State enters the weekend 7-17 overall, 4-16 in conference play. The Beavers sit 8th in the north and 15th overall. BSU has dropped their last three matchups falling to UMary, Northern State, and MSU Moorhead. The Beavers are led by fifth-year guard Trinity Yoder who averages 15.4 points per game with 5.4 rebounds. Additionally, Yoder has 113 assists and 48 steals while ranking 9th in the conference for scoring. Freshman forward Alyssa Hill averages 11.4 points per game with 6.2 rebounds while sophomore forward Sam Pogatchnik averages 6.6 rebounds per game.

St. Cloud State and Bemidji State will meet for the 67th time since 1969. SCSU leads the all-time series 49-18 over BSU. The two teams met earlier in the season with the Huskies downing the Beavers 68-42 in Halenbeck Hall. In Bemidji, MN, the Huskies lead the series 26-16 over the Beavers.

Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles
Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend 10-16 overall, 9-11 in conference play. UMC sits 6th in the north and 10th in the overall standings. The Golden Eagles are led by freshman guard Emma Miller who averages 18.8 points per game and 4.3 rebounds. Additionally, Miller ranks second in the NSIC for scoring with her 18.8 ppg. Redshirt senior center Bren Fox averages 9.4 points per game and 9.5 rebounds. Fox ranks first in the conference for rebounding.
