Huskies lead time of possession and shots, but can’t overcome two early goals from Bemidji State
BEMIDJI, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (4-2-0, 1-1-0 NSIC) dropped a 2-0 result to Bemidji State (4-0-2, 2-0-0 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon in Bemidji. Bemidji State was able to score two goals in the game's first 10 minutes of the game and despite St. Cloud State controlling pace for much of the second half which generated numerous scoring chances, the Huskies couldn't find the back of the net, yielding the 2-0 final score.
TURNING POINT
The Beavers scored twice in the eighth minute to grab a 2-0 lead, scoring at the 8:17 and 8:59 marks of the first half.
Despite the score, the Huskies never let up, as they pushed the pace, controlled the time of possession and had many attacking moments throughout the rest of the game, keeping the Beavers on their heels. In the second half alone, the Huskies recorded 10 shots compared to just one by Bemidji State.
TOP HUSKIES
Head Coach Gretta Macdonald
"Big thanks to the Husky fans who traveled today. The difference today was in two critical moments. It is a hard result that does not reflect our team performance. We are proud of our team response and how we persisted to keep the opponent on the back foot. We will regroup and refocus this week for the games ahead. We look forward to the next opportunity to improve together."
UP NEXT
Next up, the Huskies will return home for a pair of games at Husky Stadium. St. Cloud State will host Wayne State on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6:00 p.m. CT and Augustana on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1:00 p.m. CT. Both games will be streamed on NSIC Network.
