Strickland logs fourth shutout of the season, Huskies move to 3-1-1 in NSIC play
MANKATO, Minn. – Despite a combined 19 shots between the two teams, no one was able to find the back of the net, as St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (6-2-1, 3-1-1 NSIC) and No. 12 Minnesota State-Mankato (5-1-3, 3-0-2 NSIC) played to a scoreless draw on Friday in Mankato. Freshman goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) led the defensive stance for the Huskies, logging her fourth shutout of the season.
TURNING POINT
St. Cloud State created a number of scoring chances throughout the game, constantly attacking in the final third against Minnesota State, but was unable to score a go-ahead goal.
The Mavericks were able to muster eight shots in the second half, compared to just one for the Huskies. However, the SCSU defense remained strong and turned away each scoring chance, as Strickland made three of her five saves in the second half.
TOP HUSKIES
Head Coach Gretta Macdonald
"Grateful for the traveling Husky fans energy in the stands! We dominated in the transitions and possession today, constantly pushing them back in their defensive third. We saw great progress in our build up in the final third, now it is about being clinical in critical moments. Shout out to our back line for playing like veterans against a fast direct team. We look forward to the next opportunity to improve together."
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will next head to Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday. Kickoff from St. Paul is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT on NSIC Network.
