Ahola made 108 saves in three games in December
It was just announced by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the Hockey Commissioners Association that senior goaltender Sanni Ahola has been named Goaltender of the Month and Co-Goaltender of the Month for December. Â
Ahola played three games in December against Ohio State, Minnesota, and Minnesota-Duluth. Throughout those games, Ahola played 185.00 minutes, making 108 saves, and allowing three total goals. Against Ohio State, Ahola made 45 saves on 46 shots on goal, helping the Huskies take down the Buckeyes for the first time since 2017.Â
Against Minnesota, Ahola played 65.00 minutes in net with five of those minutes being on the penalty kill as a Husky would take a five-minute major. Ahola would stand tall in net, helping the Huskies kill off the penalty and force the game to go to a shootout. While the Gophers were able to pick up the extra conference point, Ahola posted a .77 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. Â
Ahola's final game in December would come against Minnesota-Duluth, where she would play in game two of the series. The Huskies would beat the Bulldogs by a score of 5-1 as Ahola stopped 35 of 36 shots faced and St. Cloud State would score five of their own. Â
Ahola is second in the nation in goals against average (.80), first in the nation in save percentage (.967), and first in the nation in shutouts (5). Â
This is Sanni's second time being named WCHA and HCA Goaltender of the Month. Â
