Three Huskies score in 3-1 win
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 8/7 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (7-1-2, 3-1-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) beat (RV) St. Thomas, 3-1 on Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center to finish the team's home-and-home series. Fifth year forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) scored the game's opening goal against her former club while redshirt sophomore forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) netted the game-winning goal and sophomore forward Greta Henderson (Regina, Saskatchewan) added the Huskies third goal.
The Huskies scored the first goal with 8:13 left in the first period after Promersberger collected a pass from fifth year forward Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) in front of the net and put the puck over the diving St. Thomas goaltender. Promersberger and Parent, who earned the primary assist, came to the Huskies this season after previously playing together at St. Thomas. Senior defender Dayle Ross (Spirit River, Alberta) earned the secondary assist on the game's first goal.
Zimmermann, who was called for a minor penalty for body checking just 21 seconds into the second period, exited the penalty box when the Huskies had possession of the puck and found herself unmarked in front of the net and scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Henderson recorded the primary assist while sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) was credited with the secondary assist.
Henderson tallied her second point of the game when she took matters into her own hands, scoring an unassisted breakaway goal for the Huskies third and final goal of the day. Henderson found herself in a one-on-one situation with the UST netminder and scored through her legs to put SCSU up 3-0. After being called for a major penalty with 4:06 left in the game, SCSU was put on the penalty kill for the remainder of the game. UST was able to score its lone goal with eight seconds left, disrupting the Huskies shutout attempt.
