
No. 1 Huskies Capture Five Titles at Wisconsin Open

St. Cloud State Places 16 Wrestlers
Kenosha, Wis.- No. 1 Ranked St. Cloud State was back in action this morning as they traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete in the Wisconsin Open. The Huskies captured five titles and placed 16 wrestlers in the event.

At 149, Nolan Throne picked up his second title of the season. Throne reached the semifinals off a pair of bonus point victories as he defeated Brayden Deem 15-0 and then Jordan Craft 10-2. In the semifinals, Throne picked up an 8-5 decision victory and then took home the title with a 4-1 victory over Jake Harrier.

Wrestling at 165, No. 6 ranked Nick Novak captured his first title of the season. Like Throne, Novak used a pair of bonus point victories to reach the semifinals. In round one, Novak beat Kailan Keith 15-0 and then followed that up with a 10-1 major decision against Logan Sanom. Novak advanced to the championship round following a 9-5 victory over Cody Goebel. In the championship round, Novak came away with a 4-1 sudden victory against Dajun Johnson to take the title.

At 174, Bryce Dagel took home his first title of the season. In round one, Dagel came away with a 15-0 tech fall over Lucas Wendling and then won in sudden victory 1-0 against Jed Wester. In the semifinals, used a 4-2 decision against Chris Moore to advance to the championship round where he faced off against Matt Ortiz. A 5-2 decision against Ortiz would give Dagel his first title of the season.

Wrestling at 197, No. 4 ranked Dominic Murphy won his second consecutive title after winning three matches in bonus point fashion. In the quarterfinals, Murphy came up with a fall at the 2:02 mark against Benjamin Leece and then advanced to the finals with a 12-3 major decision against Kaden Hooker. In the championship round, Murphy came up with another fall, this time at the 3:46 mark against Chase Stegall to capture his second title of the year.

At 285, No. 2 ranked La'Ron Parks won his third consecutive title for the Huskies. Parks captured a narrow 3-2 decision victory in the opening round and then advanced to the semifinals with a fall at the 3:55 mark against Cooper Caraway. In the semifinals, Parks beat teammate Donnie Hidden 8-3 to advance to the championship round. In the finals, Parks came away with the title following a 9-5 decision against Lloyd Reynolds.

11 other Huskies placed in the event including Conor Knopick (6th, 125), Caleb Meekins (2nd, 133), Sam Spencer (3rd, 133), Alyeus Craig (4th, 141), Jimmy Pierandozzi (5th, 165), Derek Johnson (4th, 165), Cole Glazier (5th, 174), Bryce FitzPatrick (6th, 184), Nathan Fury (6th, 197), Jadon Mims (3rd, 285), and Donnie Hidden (5th, 285).
