No. 8 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Wins Final Nonconference Game, Takes Down Union, 2-1

Huskies notch 10th win of the season in final road game of 2024
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (10-5-3, 5-5-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) defeated Union (N.Y.), 2-1 in its final nonconference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink in Schenectady, New York.
The Huskies opened the game aggressively, outshooting Union (7-10-1, 4-3-0 ECACH), 21-2 in the first 20 minutes and kept the momentum going in the second period, when they put nine shots on goal and held the Garnet Chargers to zero shots.
Sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) put the Huskies on the board first at the 9:32 mark of the first period and fifth year forward Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.) doubled the SCSU lead at the 12:54 mark of the second period with an unassisted goal. Fifth year forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) earned the primary assist on the Sundelin goal, while sophomore forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) contributed the secondary assist.
Fifth year goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) saved the only two shots she faced in the first 40 minutes of the game and saved six of the seven shots she saw in the final period. Union's lone goal came with less than a minute left in the game when they were on the powerplay and pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker to make it a 6-on-4 advantage.

The Huskies close out the first half of their season with a home series against No. 4 Minnesota Duluth (10-5-1, 7-4-1 WCHA) on Dec. 6-7 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. - Promersberger, Sauriol and Sundelin moved into a tie with Ross and sophomore forward Greta Henderson (Regina, Saskatchewan) for the second most points on the team this season (eight).
- Myers' goal was her first of the season and ninth of her career. Her last goal came against St. Thomas on Nov. 17, 2023.
- Sundelin tied fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) for the team lead in faceoff wins (eight).
- Sauriol's assist was the 15th of her career.
- Ahola earned her sixth win of the season and lowered her season goals against average to 1.89.
- Bulger also tied Ross for the team lead in blocks, with two.
- Gentry tied for the team lead in faceoff wins (eight) and shots on goal (five).
- Ross tied for the team lead in blocked shots (two) and shots on goal (five).
- Parent skated in her 115th career game.
- Farrell played in her 90th career game.
- Voigt skated in her 75th collegiate game.
