Huskies take down (RV) Minnesota State in four to open Northern Sun play 1-0
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 12 St. Cloud State Volleyball (6-2, 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) beat (RV) Minnesota State in four sets (25-23, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15) on Thursday night at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud.
SCSU handed the Mavericks (8-1, 0-1 NSIC) their first loss of the season in its 2024 conference/home debut. St. Cloud State's defense was strong, holding Minnesota State's offense to under 10 kills in the second and fourth set and the Mavs hit just .105 and -.129 in those sets. TOP HUSKIES
"I was really proud of our women tonight, beating a previously undefeated team in four sets. I really loved the way we battled in the first set and came back to win. Between our defense and serving, we controlled the entire second set. I thought we did a great job hitting spots to get them out of system, so they couldn't run a fast offense. We battled in the third set, but just couldn't quite catch up after we got behind. I think we had four or five stuff blocks in the final set and that helped put things away, but overall, I was proud of our defensive effort tonight and it was a nice team win for us."
NOTABLES
The Huskies finish their first weekend of conference play against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT from Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Volleyball schedule page.
