Two-Goal Third Period Propels No. 11 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Past (RV) Mavericks in Series Opener

Gentry, Moran and Sauriol score as Huskies beat Minnesota State, 3-1
MANKATO, Minn. – No. 11/10 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (14-10-5, 9-10-4 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) used two third period goals to take down (RV) Minnesota State, 3-1 on Friday afternoon at the Mayo Clinic HSEC.
Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) put the Huskies on the board first, netting the game's first goal just 3:54 into the first period. Senior defender Taylor Larson (Nisswa, Minnesota) forced turnover deep in the Huskies defensive zone Gentry picked up the puck and went coast-to-coast, shooting and scoring from the top of the left circle. The Mavericks (11-17-1, 5-17-1) responded early in the second period, converting on a power play opportunity to tie the game at one.
SCSU took its second lead of the day when sophomore forward Marie Moran (Lakeville, Minn.) finished off a one-on-one opportunity in front of the Minnesota State net, putting it between the goaltender's legs for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The Huskies added its final goal of the game five minutes later when sophomore forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) stole the puck in the Huskies offensive zone had her first shot saved before bouncing a backhand shot off the Maverick goalies skate into the back of the net.
Freshman netminder Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) did not allow an even strength goal, saving 15 of the 16 total shots she faced.

- SCSU improves to 54-43-13 all-time against Minnesota State including a 23-21-6 mark against the Mavericks in Mankato. The Huskies finished are 2-1-0 against MSU so far this season.
- SCSU led the game in shots (20-16), while the Mavericks led in faceoff wins (30-22), saves (17-15) and blocked shots (16-7).
- The Huskies power play went 0-for-2, and their penalty kill went 0-for-1.
- Gentry joined sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) for the team lead in goals for the season (eight). She is now tied for second all-time in career goals scored (54) with Felicia Nelson (2006-10) and Holly Roberts (2006-10). She also played in her 145th game, moving herself into a tie for the 6th most career games with Abby Ness (2011-15), Brita Schroeder (2005-09) and Brittni Kuyper (2004-08).
- Moran scored her second goal of the season and her career.
- Sauriol scored her fifth goal of the season and played in her 65th collegiate game.
- Kyrkkö lowered her goals against average to 1.83. It was her 15th career game.
- Larson's assist gave her 10 points for the season. She is the sixth Husky to reach double-digit points this season. She skated in ger 110th career game.
- Promersberger's assist gave her 35 points for her career.
- Senior defender Ella Anick (Hermantown, Minn.) was one of three Huskies to finish the game +3.
- Wolfe was the only Husky to record at least two blocked shots. It was her 110th career game.
- Senior defender Dayle Ross (Spirit River, Alberta) played in her 135th career game.
- Sundelin skated in her 65th career game.
- Sophomore defender Carmen Bray (Nanaimo, British Columbia) played her 45th career game.
- Freshman defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) skated in her 25th career game.
- Sophomore defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) skated in her 15th career game.
- Sophomore forward Grace Delmonico (Eagan, Minn.) played in her 5th career game.
