Sophomore second baseman named to Second Team, first Husky to earn NFCA all-America honors in nearly 20 years
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – St. Cloud State Softball sophomore second baseman Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-American, as announced by the organization on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. Holmes, a first-time all-America honoree, is one of 56 to be recognized as the best nation's best for the 2025 season.
The Savage, Minnesota native is the sixth Husky and first second baseman to be named an NFCA All-American. She is the first to earn the nation's top honor since Jenny Gensch was named a to the first team as a shortstop in 2008. The Huskies most recent all-America award came in 2021, when shortstop, Raven Vanden Langenberg was given an honorable mention nod by the Division-II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).
Earlier this spring, Holmes earned the first all-region accolades of her career after being named to the All-Central Region Second Team by the NFCA on May 8 and her first all-conference recognition after earning a Second Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) selection on April 29. She was the first Husky to garner NFCA All-Region honors since Vanden Langenberg in 2022 and the first SCSU second baseman since Maya Keating in 2019.
Additionally, Holmes was twice named NSIC Player of the Week by the league office (Feb. 24 | April 28). They were her first two weekly conference honors of her career, and she was the only Husky to earn weekly honors throughout the season. After an incredible non-conference season, she was named to the 2025 NFCA Division II Player of the Year watchlist on March 27.
The sophomore led SCSU in in batting average (.414), slugging percentage (.688), runs (52), home runs (12), RBI (51), total bases (128) and times hit by pitch (four). She also ranked second in on-base percentage (.471), hits (77) and third in doubles (13).
During the final weekend of regular season play, the Huskies reached the 40-win mark for the eighth time in program history and the first time since 2019.
The NFCA All-America teams are voted on by the Association's All-America Committees. In Division II, the committee is comprised of one member head coach from each of the NCAA's eight regions. All student-athletes who were nominated by a member head coach and voted to the first- or second-team All-Region squads were eligible for All-America consideration.
