St. Cloud State Softball Splits Opening Day of NSIC Play Against Minot State

Huskies take game one 1-0, drop game two 4-3
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (19-9, 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its opening day of conference play against Minot State (16-10, 1-1 NSIC) on Saturday at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud. The Huskies won the first game 1-0 before dropping the second 4-3.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 1, MINOT STATE 0
Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) opened the second inning with a triple, but the Huskies were unable to take advantage as the following three batters struck out. Junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) hit a leadoff home run in the top of the fourth, scoring what ended up being the game's lone run. Minot State hit a leadoff triple in the sixth, but SCSU made a play at home in the next at bat to prevent a run from scoring. Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was excellent in the circle, tossing a 7.0 inning shutout with 11 strikeouts.

The Beavers held a 3-0 lead after scoring one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings before SCSU tied the game in the home half of the fifth when redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) hit a two-out, three-run home run over the right field fence. Minot State retook the lead in the next half inning with an RBI-double and held the Huskies hitless in the final two innings to hold on to its 4-3 lead and win the game and earn the series split.

- Clark earned her second shutout of the season and eighth win, which both lead the team this season. It was also her team-leading seventh complete game of the season. Her 11 strikeouts tied her single game career high as a Husky.
- Weiss hit her team-leading third home run of the season. She extended her on-base streak to seven games.
- Honeycutt hit her team-leading third triple of the season. She also notched her sixth multi-hit game of the season which ranks tied for No. 3 on the team.

- Roe drew 2+ walks in a game for the fifth time this season. Her 14 walks this season are the second most on the team early.
