St. Cloud State Softball Sweeps Marauders with Pair of Run Rule Wins

Huskies sweep UMary 10-2 (5 inn.) and 8-0 (5 inn.), open conference play 3-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (21-9, 3-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its second day of conference play against UMary (10-16, 0-4 NSIC) with a pair of run rule wins on Sunday at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud. The Huskies won the first game 10-2 and the second game 8-0, both in five innings.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 10, UMARY 2 (5 INN.)
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead with six runs on five hits in the home half of the first inning. After junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) drew a leadoff walk, junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) drove in the game's first run with an RBI-double. Two batters later, sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) pushed the Huskies lead to three with a two-RBI double. Later in the first, junior outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.) and freshman outfielder Rowan Jansen (St. Louis Park, Minn.) hit back-to-back RBI-singles and Holmes drove in the sixth and final run of the inning in the next at-bat.
SCSU added a pair of runs in the second inning, pushing its lead to 8-0 after a sacrifice fly from redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) and an RBI-single from sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.).
In the top of the fourth, UMary recorded its first two base runners of the game and scored its first runs of the game after a Husky error to make the score 8-2. Frechette hit a two-RBI double in the next half inning to push the SCSU lead back to eight. The Marauders were unable to continue the game in the top of the fifth after going three up, three down to end the game at 10-2.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU plated all eight of its runs of its second consecutive five inning run rule win on seven hits in the first inning. Collins drove in the first two runs with a single to right center, Dahmen hit an RBI-single, Jansen scored on a UMary error, and the Huskies finished the inning with back-to-back two-RBI doubles from Holmes and Weiss.

The Huskies travel to the Dakotas next weekend for their first road NSIC games of the season. SCSU plays Jamestown (19-8, 0-4 NSIC) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Nelson Family Bubble in Jamestown, North Dakota and Northern State (8-12, 0-4 NSIC) on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m. at Koehler Hall of Fame Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota. - SCSU hit a season-high four doubles and scored 10+ runs for the second time this season.
- Clark earned her team-leading ninth win of the season in her team-leading eighth complete game.
- Roe recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season.
- Honeycutt's three runs were tied for the most by any Husky in a game this year. She hit her team-leading eighth double of the season and recorded her third multi-RBI game of the season.
- Frechette's double was her seventh of the season which is the third most on the team. She posted her fourth multi-RBI game of the season and her second with 3+ RBIs.
- Weiss hit her team-leading eighth double of the season. She extended her hit streak to five games and extended her on-base streak to a season-best nine games.
- Harms went 1-for-3 to extend her on-base streak to a season-best six games.
