No. 13/12 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Suffers First Loss of 2025, Falls to No. 12/13 UConn 2-1 in Series Finale

SCSU concedes two power play goals, scores on penalty shot
STORRS, Conn. – No. 13/12 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (3-1-0, 0-0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell for the first time in the 2025-26 season, dropping its series finale against No. 12/13 UConn, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Connecticut.
After going 0-for-3 on the power play on Friday evening, UConn converted its first opportunity on the player advantage on Saturday, netting a goal just 14 seconds after SCSU was sent to the box for hooking. Despite leading the first period in shots, 15-8, St. Cloud State was unable to find the back of the net and went into the first intermission down 1-0.
Junior defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) equalized the game, scoring SCSU's first goal of the game 3:50 into the second period. Bryant converted on a penalty shot that St. Cloud State was awarded after a UConn defender covered up the puck in the crease, stopping a goal-scoring opportunity.
Later in the second period, SCSU killed off a 5-on-3 power play before conceding its second power play goal of the game which ended up as the game-winning goal for UConn .

- Graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) was solid in net all game, making 29 saves. She did not allow an even-strength goal and was named the game's third star.
- Bryant recorded the lone Husky point on her penalty shot goal.
- SCSU moved to 3-5-0 all-time against UConn and is now 1-3-0 against UConn in Storrs.
- SCSU moved to 1-1-0 against teams ranked/receiving votes this season and 1-1-0 on the road.
- SCSU blocked 12+ shots for the second straight game.
- SCSU went 0-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill, conceding its first power play goals of the year. For the season, SCSU is 2-for-9 on the power play (22.2%) and 12-for-14 (85.7%) on the penalty kill.
- Chobak made a season-high 29 saves.
- Bryant scored her first career goal and recorded a career-high five shots on goal.
- Junior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) went 12-and-7 (63.2%) on the faceoff dot. For the season, she is 56-and-32 (63.6%).
- Redshirt junior Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) went 11-and-5 (68.8%) on the dot, improving to 29-and-23 (55.8%) on the season.
- Redshirt freshman Myah Krueger (Stillwater, Minn.) tallied a career-high three shots on goal.
- Senior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) skated in her 110th career game.
- Junior forward Marie Moran (Lakeville, Minn.) skated in her 40th career game.
- Sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) skated in her 35th career game.
