Haviland scores for second consecutive game and fourth time in five games this season

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (2-1-2, 1-0-1 NSIC) jumped out to an early lead in the second minute and held on for a 1-0 victory over Minot State (1-4-0, 0-2-0 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. Sophomore midfielder Laney Haviland (West Des Moines, Iowa) netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season while senior goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) stopped all three shots on goal for her second shutout of the season.

TURNING POINT

The Huskies grabbed momentum early, scoring just 1:39 into the game when senior midfielder Cady Compton (Ankeny, Iowa) beat the defense in the box and centered a pass to Haviland, who was able to bury a shot for the 1-0 lead. SCSU controlled much of the rest of the game and held off a late Beaver flurry to take the game, 1-0.

Strickland made three saves and recorded her second shutout of the season.
Compton had an assist on Haviland's goal, her second helped of the season.

NOTES

SCSU improves to 5-9-2 all-time against Minot State and extends its unbeaten streak against the Beavers to four (2-0-2) games.
The Huskies had the edge in shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (7-0).
Haviland found the back of the net for the fourth time this season and extends her team lead in goals (four) and points (eight).
Strickland recorded her second shutout of the season and 22^nd of her career while reaching her 30^th career victory in net.
Compton registered her second assist of the season and fifth of her career while matching her career-best mark for assists in a season at two.
Three Huskies, Strickland, junior defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) and junior defender Reese Zediker (Caledonia, Ill.), played a full 90 minutes in the game.

UP NEXT

SCSU will hit the road for its next two conference games, heading to Aberdeen to play Northern State on Friday, Sept. 18 and then to Jamestown to play Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 20.
