Andrew Melroe joined the St. Cloud State staff in June 2021 as the Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications. In his position, Melroe will oversee the Huskies’ communications staff and spearhead the department’s digital strategy and branding campaigns.
Melroe joined the Huskies after a six-year stint at the University of Missouri, his alma mater. He served as the Associate Director of Strategic Communications for three seasons where his primary responsibilities include handling the communications efforts for nationally-ranked women’s basketball program while assisting with the football program. In that role, Melroe helped lead the charge for publicity of the women’s basketball’s first-ever All-American, Sophie Cunningham, and served as the interim primary contact season for the football team during the 2020 season.
In his first three years at Mizzou, Melroe served as the SID for the wrestling and track & field/cross country programs, where those two programs combined for three conference titles, eight top-20 NCAA team finishes, eight individual national titles, 27 individual conference titles and 36 individual All-America honors. During this tenure, Melroe gained the experience of promoting two of most successful athletes in Mizzou Athletics history, J’den Cox and Karissa Schweizer.
Melroe oversaw the publicity efforts for Cox’s 2016 Olympic bronze medalist run, orchestrating numerous media and public appearances, which included a campus-wide kickoff event, a welcome back reception and Cox singing the national anthem at Memorial Stadium prior to a Mizzou Football game.
Additionally, while at Mizzou, Melroe served as the liaison and provided publicity for the department’s academic success program (MizzouMade) and the Black Student-Athletes Association.
Before arriving in Columbia, Melroe worked for the Minnesota State University Moorhead Athletics Department over the 2014-15 athletic season and for the Mountain West Conference in 2015. At MSUM, Melroe was the primary media contact for the men’s basketball and volleyball teams. He assisted in the image of Dragon Athletics by creating a team-specific twitter page for the men’s basketball team and establishing graphic design for social media use throughout all of its sports. As a social media intern at the Mountain West, Melroe assisted in the social media preparation and execution for the conference’s football and men’s basketball media day events, held in Las Vegas. Melroe worked to reach a wider audience while working in conference office by creating graphics for social media use and launching a snapchat account.
Melroe graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with an emphasis in Sport Management in August 2014. While at Mizzou, he worked as an intern for the volleyball team and the Mizzou Strategic Communications office, where he volunteered at the 2014 SEC Football Media Days.
A native of Eagan, Minn., Melroe graduated from Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minn., in June 2010 where he was a videographer for the football and hockey teams.
Melroe and his wife, Megan, reside in Monticello with their son, Brooks, and dog, Finn.
