Bruce Thompson will be returning for his third season as assistant coach with the Huskies in 2015, and will work primarily with catchers and hitters. Thompson has helped lead one of the nation's top offensive teams in NCAA DII baseball over the past two years, including a team batting average of .330 in 2014 by the Huskies.
A graduate of Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, Minn., Thompson lettered in hockey, football, and baseball during his prep career. He earned All-Conference honors and Honorable Mention All-State in football and was a 2x time All-Conference Selection and 2x Honorable Mention All-State and three year starter on the baseball diamond.
Thompson was also a 2x time team MVP and All-District award winner with the North St. Paul Legion 39ers. Thompson was selected to play in the Minnesota Lions All-Star game where his East team won the tournament.
He joined the team at St. Cloud State in 2005, and played three years for Denny Lorsung and wrapped up his final year with current coach Pat Dolan. Thompson was a three year starter for the Huskies, playing both infield and outfield. He was an All-NCC First Team Selection in 2008.
Thompson has worked for the professional lacrosse team the Minnesota Swarm and was the Director of Sales for the St. Cloud River Bats. He was also an assistant coach for St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones where he helped lead them to a conference championship, region championship and first ever birth to the DIII Junior College World Series.
SCTCC set a school record for wins in a season with 43 and were ranked as high as third in the country in 2012. In the summer of 2012, Thompson was co-head coach of the Sartell Legion baseball team.
In addition to his work with the SCSU baseball team, Thompson works in the admissions office at St. Cloud State University.
“We are very fortunate to have Bruce back in the Husky Baseball Family. He has developed quite a nice resumeboth coaching and working in the management and marketing side of athletics. This experience and knowledge with aid us in both areas. Bruce was always a ‘we first’ type of guy when he played and having played for us he knows our system,” quoted SCSU skipper Pat Dolan.
