SCSU's Koliso & Bekelcho Place Among Top 15 at Griak

St. Cloud State University's Mahdi Koliso placed 12th overall and Gemechu Bekelcho earned a 14th place finish at the prestigious Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 29.
Koliso finished the 8K course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on the University of Minnesota campus with a time of 25:56.3 in the Maroon Division (DII) race. Bekelcho posted a time of 26:00.5 in the race for the Huskies.
As a team, the Huskies placed 21st out of 36 teams and the race featured 430 runners from Division II from around the nation. Other SCSU runners at the meet include Jared Hicks with a time of 27:53, Paul Greenwood at 28:26, Casey Mueller at 29:46, Paul Maile at 30:30 and Mommed Nurie at 32:11.
The SCSU women's cross country team placed 22nd out of 38 teams in the Roy Griak Maroon Division II race for women. The Huskies were paced in the race by Kassie Vaness with a 24th (overall) place finish at 23:31.3 on the 6K course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. This race featued 413 runners on the women's side.
Other runners for the Huskies at the Roy Griak included Nichelle Rubash at 24:15.5, Jenny Metzler at 25:20.1, Lindsay Stassen at 25:40.7, Lauren Johnson at 26:28.1 and Emily Helwig at 27:32.1.
"I was very happy with the women's peformances at the Roy Griak," SCSU coach Eric Hanenberger said. "A lot were near their pr for the course or pr'd this weekend. This excites me for the conference meet in three weeks. Kassie Vaness... hands down great race. Mahdi (Koliso) and Gemechu (Bekelcho) ran gutsy and great races. Men had a real test for conference and responded well. Perfect weather today for the Griak, which is one of the nation's top collegiate cross country meets."
