Women's Hockey on the Road to #9 Minnesota Duluth

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team heads on the road for a two-game series against #9 Minnesota Duluth Nov. 1-2. Game times are set for 6:07 p.m. both days from the AMSOIL Arena.
THE RECORD: St. Cloud State comes into this weekend's series at Duluth holding a 0-6-2 overall record and a 0-5-1 record in the ever-grueling WCHA, good for sixth place.
LAST TIME OUT: St. Cloud State was at home this past weekend as they welcomed North Dakota to Brooks Center. In game one on Friday it was a battle by both teams but North Dakota prevailed by a final score of 2-1 and earned the sweep with a 6-1 victory over the Huskies on Saturday. A quick goal by UND in the first put the Huskies down 1-0. St. Cloud came out in the second period on their second power-play opportunity of the game as Julia Gilbert capitalized on the five-on-four situation tying the game up 1-1 just 11 seconds into the period. Assists on the goal were charted to senior Molli Mott and sophomore Skye Kelly. St. Cloud's offense would pick up in the second period to outshoot North Dakota 14-7 for a total after two periods of 19 to 15 in favor of the Huskies. UND would seal a 2-1 win at the 14:35 mark of the third period off a bounce. On the power-play, SCSU was 1-6 while UND was 0-6 on the night. In game two on Saturday, it was a mirror image of game one, as the Huskies would come out in the second period trailing 1-0 and on a power-play opportunity. This time it was junior Abby Ness tying the game up 1-1, 58 seconds into the period. Michelle Burke and Skye Kelly were recorded with the assists on the play. Splitting time in goal for the Huskies this weekend was Julie Friend and Katie Fitzgerald. Friend posted a total 58 saves and the goalie of record for both games. Fitzgerald earned 12 saves and 21:58 of playing time to close out Saturday's game.

All-Time Series: UMD leads the all-time series with St. Cloud as they hold a 50-9-3 record from their first meeting together in 1998.
Ranked: Minnesota Duluth is currently tied for fourth in the WCHA standings. In national polls UMD is ranked #9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and receiving votes in the USCHO poll.
Previous Games: Duluth is coming off a two-game win streak as they swept Minnesota State last weekend 6-2 and 3-1. They started WCHA play at North Dakota falling 3-4 in game one and tied in OT 3-3 in game two.
Leaders: Leading the Bulldogs so far this season is Jenna McParland with a total 12 points (5g, 7a) and is followed by Jamie Kenyon (5g, 5a) and Lara Stalder (2g, 8a) both with 10 points.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The Huskies and the Bulldogs met twice during the 2012-13 season with the most recent time coming January 12-13 in Duluth. UMD swept the Huskies 3-1 and 8-2 in the series. The first meeting last season was in St. Cloud on Nov. 16-17 where Duluth also swept the series 4-1 both games.
LOOKING TO CHANGE STREAKS: St. Cloud is taking to the road in hopes of getting that first win in the ever-grueling WCHA to break their five-game losing streak. The Huskies are also looking to change another streak as Duluth has won the last 11 games against the Huskies that dates back to Dec. 4, 2011. UMD has only shutout the Huskies four times in the last 11 games.
LEADING THE HUSKIES: Senior forward Molli Mott leads the Huskies with two goals and four assist for a total six points on 12 shots. Mott has played in all eight games so far for St. Cloud and has recorded nine defensive blocks.
