SCSU Baseball Sweeps Minnesota Crookston

Minneapolis, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University baseball team (17-2, 6-0 NSIC) had an early wake-up call Tuesday as they hosted the University of Minnesota Crookston at the Minneapolis Metrodome.
In game one, the Huskies took a 7-1 victory over UMC. In the second game the Huskies charted a 10-0 win in seven innings for the sweep over the Golden Eagles.
The Huskies took a 4-0 lead off the bat in the first inning with a home run by Eric Loxtercamp as well as two doubles by Sean Borman and Michael Jurgella. Travis Cariveau hit a single to score some runs as well.
UMC was able to get a run on the board in the third inning making it a 4-1 game. Left fielder Ryan Haggstrom hit a single to score Brooks Miller.
SCSU came back in the fifth inning scoring three runs to make it a 7-1 game. Garrett Fischer led off for the Huskies with a single to left field to be followed with a double by Borman to score. Jurgella hit a double to left field as well to then score Borman. Later in the inning Jurgella stole home for the Huskies final run scored.
On the mound for the Huskies, Scott Lieser threw a sold five innings to later be relieved by Ryan Diers to finish the final two innings.
In game two, SCSU took a 10-0 run to sweep UMC in seven innings with Garrett Anderson pitching three innings and Nick Maiers on the mound pitching four innings.
Garrett Fischer went 4-for-4 including two doubles, while Sean Borman went 3-for-4 also including two doubles.
The Huskies will return to action April 6-7 as they play host to Minot State with the games being held at Minnetonka High School's baseball field. Game times are currently slated to start at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"Pitching was the name of the game for us, with all four guys throwing the ball great," said head coach Pat Dolan. "To again only allow one run and 4-5 hits is amazing and a credit to Coach Vorps and his staff."
"I think sometimes our offense just takes for granted our pitchers abilities, but we did drop 17 runs in 12 innings. We had a lot of crooked number innings the first six NSIC games but we are starting to click offensively now. Borman and Fischer were locked in all morning."
"Once you think you've seen everything in this crazy game of baseball after finishing games at 3 and 4 a.m. a few weeks back, today we had a game completed by 8 a.m. and a doubleheader done by 10:30 a.m. Weird playing times, but we are playing. We still have five games lost to weather, so it's just nice to get some games in! We are fortunate to be moving our Minot State series to Minnetonka's turf field this weekend," says coach Dolan.
