SCSU Baseball Defeats Minot State, 1-0 & 4-2

Minnetonka, Minn. - The St. Cloud State baseball team played host to Minot State Sunday at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn. The Huskies defeated the Beavers 1-0 and 4-2 in Sunday's doubleheader.
It was not until the fourth inning when the Huskies got a run on the board to take a 1-0 lead over Minot. Michael Jurgella started the inning off with a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brian Hansen followed with a walk and then Travis Cariveau doubled to right center scoring Jurgella and advancing Hansen.
The Huskies Scott Lieser was on the mound in game one pitching all seven innings and holding Minot State to only seven hits. With the win Lieser moves his record on the season to 7-1.
In game two, Minot State took a 1-0 lead over the Huskies in the first inning. SCSU came back in the second inning to tie the game up 1-1 with Borman scoring on a throwing error.
Scoring went silent until the seventh inning when the Huskies took a 2-1 lead as Hansen stole home after Zac Sather flied out to centerfield.
In the top of the eighth inning Minot State tied the game up 2-2 but the Huskies were going to end it as they scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-2 victory.
With Eric Loxtercamp on second base, Sean Borman hit a home run to center field.
Kyle Fischer started on the mound for the Huskies in game two pitching eight innings and was relieved by Reese Gregory in the ninth. With the win Fischer moves his record to 6-1 and Gregory adds another save.
The St. Cloud State University baseball team and Minot State University will be back at it Monday for another doubleheader at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn. Game one is slated for 9 a.m. with game two to follow.
