Scott Lieser, a four-year pitching standout for the St. Cloud State University baseball team from 2010 to 2013, recently signed a contract to play professional baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Lieser signed as an undrafted free agent for the Brewers and he is scheduled to be assigned to the AZL Brewers in the Arizona Rookie League.
"This is outstanding news for Scott (Lieser) and our baseball program," SCSU head coach Pat Dolan said. Â "Scott established himself as one of the premiere pitchers in the history of our baseball program, and he is very deserving of this recognition. Â I definitely think he has the ability and desire to find success at the next level and we certainly wish him the best as he begins his professional baseball career."
Lieser was named to the 2013 Daktronics Division II Baseball All-America team as an honorable mention selection. He becomes the eighth SCSU athlete to gain All-America status in baseball and this marks the fifth consecutive season that a Husky has earned All-America status.
An All-NSIC First Team selection in 2013, Lieser paced the Huskies this season with 66 strikeouts. He owned a 2.71 ERA this spring, which included a 10-3 record in 83.0 innings of work. He also posted the third no-hitter of his career in 2013. Lieser recently set a new team record by winning his 32nd career victory against Central Missouri at the NCAA Division II Central Regional on May 16 in Mankato.
Lieser leaves SCSU with a 32-7 career record and a 3.10 ERA. He now ranks third in the team records with 226 strikeouts over his career. A 2013 team captain, Lieser was named to the NSIC All-Academic team this spring. He has earned All-NSIC status twice during his college career and Lieser has gained All-Region status three times as a Husky.
The Huskies completed the recent 2013 season with a 37-11 overall record and captured the NSIC regular season crown with a 19-3 league record. SCSU earned its fourth consecutive NCAA DIvision II tournament bid in 2013 and also finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Central Region tournament for the third time since 2010.
Lieser is a graduate of Browerville High School and a resident of Browerville, Minn.Â
