SCSU Soccer Endures First Loss to Duluth, 4-1

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's soccer team was back in action Sunday afternoon as they played host to the University of Minnesota Duluth for the first NSIC game of the season. The Huskies fell to the Bulldogs by a final score of 4-1.
Duluth came out to take a 1-0 lead over the Huskies at the 24:06 mark of the game as Dani Potter scored unassisted. The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead as Maureen Stormont shot one in at the 32:36 mark making it 2-0 game. Assists were charted to Katie Schneider and Megan Helberg on the goal.
In the first half the Bulldogs outshot the Huskies by a 12-6 margin.Â
The Huskies came out in the second half fighting to get that first goal to shorten the lead of Duluth. At the 50:19 mark of the game it was Kara Dahmen pulling the goalie up to shoot from about 40 yards out over the head of the goalie and into the top middle making it a 2-1 game. Bailly Drayton was recorded with the assist to Dahmen.Â
UMD would increase their lead as Dani Potter connected scoring two back-to-back goals at the 54:25 and 64:30 marks of the game.
St. Cloud was unable to come back as they had a couple huge shots that were stopped by the Bulldogs. UMD held on to their lead, defeating the Huskies 4-1.Â
Sophomore Brittany Plombon was in the net again for the Huskies recording six saves, while Marissa Rosa tallied three saves and two team saves for Duluth. With the loss Plombon moves her record to 3-1 on the season.
The Huskies (3-1, 0-1 NSIC) will be back in action on September 21-22 as they welcome Winona State University Saturday and Upper Iowa University Sunday to Husky Stadium. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. both days.
