Women's Hockey Travels to #1 Minnesota, Jan. 24-25

St. Cloud, Minn. -Â St. Cloud State women's hockey is set to end their six-game road stand Jan. 24-25 as they travel to #1 Minnesota before coming back to Brooks Center. The Huskies and the Gophers will kick-off their series Friday with the puck drop at 7:07 p.m. from Ridder Arena with Saturday's game also a 7:07 p.m. start time.
THE RECORD: The Huskies hold a 4-19-3 overall record and a 3-15-2-1 record good for 12 points in the ever-grueling WCHA coming into their series against Minnesota. St. Cloud sits tied for seventh place currently in conference standings with Minnesota State.
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies traveled to #4 North Dakota this past weekend for a two-game series at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Huskies were unable to come away with some wins as UND took both games shutting out SCSU 4-0 and battling to a 3-1 win for the sweep. Earning the sole goal for the Huskies was sophomore Hanna Brodt. At the 11:41 mark of the period Brodt found the back of the net taking a 1-0 lead over UND shooting from the slot to put the puck over the shoulder of the UND goalie. This was also Brodt's first goal of the season. Senior forward Sydney Burghardt was credited with the assist on the goal for her fourth of the season. Earning both starts of the series against UND this weekend was netminder Julie Friend. Friend recorded 33 saves on Friday and another 32 saves on Saturday. With the series, Friend saw her record move to 3-12-2 on the season.

All-Time Series: Looking into the weekend at the Huskies match-up against Minnesota, the Gophers lead the all-time series holding a 57-3-2 record, dating back to their first meeting Jan. 9, 1999.
Rankings: The Gophers are currently ranked #1 in the WCHA standings with 49 points as Wisconsin follows with 48 points. In national polls Minnesota is also ranked #1 in the USCHO poll and in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Leaders: Minnesota is led in scoring by sophomore Hannah Brandt with 39 points. Brandt has recorded 14 goals, 25 assists, 17 blocks, and holds a +30 plus/minus so far this season. Following closely behind Brandt is junior Rachael Bona with 38 points (14g, 24a). Carrying the Gophers in the net has been sophomore Amanda Leveille with a 1.19 goals against average and a .948 save percentage in 24 games played.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The last time the teams met this season was in St. Cloud on Nov. 8-9 where Minnesota earned the series sweep, 4-1 and 4-3. SCSU gave Minnesota everything they could handle in game two as they led 2-0 after the first period. It came down to the final two minutes of the third period when Minnesota came back to tie the game up 3-3 at the 17:58 mark and then took a 4-3 lead with just over a minute left for the win. The Huskies have not had a win against the Gophers since Feb. 13, 2010, where SCSU won 6-3 at home.
