Huskies Back at Home to Host Ohio State

St. Cloud, Minn. -Â St. Cloud State women's hockey is back in the comforts of the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Jan. 31-Feb.1 as they play host to the Ohio State University Buckeyes. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. and 3:07 p.m. respectively.
THE RECORD: The Huskies hold a 4-21-3 overall record and a 3-17-2-1 record good for 12 points in the ever-grueling WCHA coming into their series against Ohio State. St. Cloud sits tied for seventh place currently in conference standings with Minnesota State.
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies ended their final series of a six-game road stand this past weekend as they traveled to #1 Minnesota. Friday, a late goal in the first proved too much for the Huskies as they fell to the Gophers, 3-0. Minnesota earned the sweep over St. Cloud with a 3-1 victory on Saturday. The Huskies were only able to put one goal up this weekend and earning that goal was Senior Michelle Burke, scoring in the crease for her first of the season in game two at the 12:50 mark of the second period. With Burke's goal, St. Cloud made it a 2-1 game but were unable to hold on as the Gophers came back to score late in the second for a 3-1 lead. Burke was assisted on the goal by freshman Lauren Hespenheide. Earning her fifth consecutive start for St. Cloud Friday (Jan. 24) night was junior Julie Friend recording 44 saves and saw her record move to 3-13-2 on the season. Getting back between the pipes for the Huskies on Saturday (Jan. 25) was sophomore Katie Fitzgerald recording an impressive 44 saves. Fitzgerald moved her record to 1-8-1 on the season.

All-Time Series: Looking into the weekend at the Huskies match-up against Ohio State, the Buckeyes lead the all-time series holding a 33-24-8 record. The all-time series dates back to Oct. 22, 1999.
Ranking: Ohio State is currently ranked #6 in the WCHA standings with 19 points but not currently ranked in the national polls.
Leaders: Senior Ally Tarr and junior Sara Schmitt, both with 19 points, lead Ohio State so far this season. Tarr has tallied six goals and 13 assists, while Schmitt holds five goals and 14 assists on the season. Closely following with 17 points each are juniors Danielle Gagne (7g, 10a) and Kari Schmitt (6g, 11a). Sharing time between the pipes for the Buckeyes is Lisa Steffes holding a 7-5-4 record, while Chelsea Knapp is 2-7-1 on the season. Steffes leads with a .936 save percentage and has recorded four shutouts.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: Ohio State took four out of six points in the series with the Huskies earlier this season in Columbus, Oct. 11-12. The teams skated to a 2-2 tie in the first game and SCSU took the extra point with a shootout win. The Buckeyes responded with a 4-2 victory the following day. During the 2012-13 season the Buckeyes went 3-0-1 against the Huskies. With OSU just ahead of St. Cloud in the WCHA standings, the Huskies are looking to earn some points this weekend at home to move up.
