Huskies Lose 3-2 Against Penn State University

Minneapolis, Minn. ----St. Cloud State took on Penn State University and gave up a 3-2 loss at the Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on Oct. 4. Â Alyssa Erickson was sent to the box late in the first for a checking penatly. The Huskies killed off the penalty but gave up the first goal shortly after the penalty expired. Â
SCSU was then sent on the power play where Molly Illikainen responded with a quick one timer with 1:50 left in the first, putting up her second goal of the season with assists going to junior Lexi Slattery and senior captain Audrey Hanmer.Â
St. Cloud took the lead just over halfway into the second when Payge Pena scored her first goal of her sophomore year. The assist was awarded to Hanmer, getting her second assist of the game. Â At the 10:55 mark of the second period Kalli Funk took a tripping penalty, sending SCSU on their third penalty kill of the game. One minute into the penalty, Penn State capitalized and tied the game at 2-2.Â
The game winning goal came 6:27 seconds into the third period, when Penn State found the back of the net. Â After pulling Katie Fitzgerald from the net with just over a minute to go, Molly Illikainen took a 5 minute major and a game misconduct sending the Huskies back on a penalty kill to end the game.Â
