SCSU Women's Hockey Defeats Lindenwood University 2-0

St. Cloud, Minn.----The Huskies took down Lindenwood University this afternoon in their first home game of the season. St. Cloud scored the first goal of the game when sent on the power play late in the first period. Junior transfer, Lexi Slattery took a shot from the point and found the back of the net, getting her first goal of the season. Assist' s were awarded to junior Molly Illikainen and senior captain Abby Ness, both getting their first assists of the season.Â
The second goal did not come until late in the third period, after Lindenwood took a penalty with only 2:06 remaining in the game. Sophomore Payge Pena redirected defenseman Lexi Slattery's shot from the point, to get her second goal of the season. This marked Slattery's second point of the game while the second assist was given to senior Audrey Hanmer.Â
The Huskies were able to kill off 5 total penalties, while senior goalie, Julie Friend, stopped a penalty shot that was awarded to Lindenwood after Hanmer took down a Lindenwood player late in the third. St. Cloud totaled 47 shots in 60 minutes of play and goaltender Julie Friend gained her first shutout of the season, after facing 27 shots.Â
St. Cloud returns to the ice tomorrow, Oct. 11 at 3:07pm for game two of the series against Lindenwood.Â
