#6 St. Cloud State men's hockey rallies for 5-2 win at DU

Denver, Colo. - The #6 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (13-4-0, 7-2-0 NCHC) rallied to gain a 5-2 victory at #11/12 University of Denver (7-6-2, 3-3-1 NCHC) on Friday, Dec. 11 at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 in the second period before they rallied with five unanswered goals to gain the NCHC victory at DU. SCSU will complete the weekend series at Denver with an 8:07 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday, Dec. 12. Fans can listen to the game on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com).
Denver opened the contest with a goal at 14:01 of the first period by Dylan Gambrell. The Pioneers pushed their lead to 2-0 with a goal at 2:31 of the second period by Troy Terry.
The remainder of the game belonged to the Huskies on both ends of the rink. After being outshot 8-4 in the first period, SCSU outshot the Pioneers 29-11 in the final two periods of play.
SCSU broke the shutout with a power play goal by Blake Winiecki at 13:10 of the second period. Jimmy Murray and Ethan Prow each charted assists on the play, which was Winiecki's fifth goal of the season.
Kalle Kossila tied the game at 2-2 with his fourth goal of the year at 17:23 of the second period. Murray gained his 10th assist of the year on the play and the second assist went to Patrick Russell.
Senior Joey Benik added the game winner at 14:14 of the third period with his ninth goal of the season. Patrick Newell and Prow each had assists on the play. The assist was Prow's 13th of the season and he now ranks second in the nation among DI defenseman with 1.15 ppg.
Kossila added his second goal of the season with a goal at 14:54 of the third period. Russell and Will Borgen each had assists on the play for the Huskies. Kossila now has 39 career goals and 119 career points at SCSU.
The Huskies completed the night with a goal by David Morley at 15:47 of the third period. Benik and Newell had assists on the play, which was Morley's 100th career point. In four years with the Huskies, Morley now has 45 goals and 55 assists. Of note, Benik's assist was his 94th career point and 49 career assist at SCSU.
Morley is the 28th player in the DI history of SCSU hockey to score 100 career points.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Pioneers 33-19. Charlie Lindgren was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 17 saves in the contest. Tanner Jaillet had 28 saves for Denver in the contest. SCSU was 1-1 and Denver was 0-2 on the power play, as only three penalties were called throughout the game.
