Sixteen athletes to compete for national titles
St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State is sending 16 athletes to NCAA Division II National Championships this week in the sports of men's and women's swimming and diving, women's track and field and wrestling. The first competition begins on March 11 with all championships scheduled for completion on Saturday, March 14.

Senior divers Tyler Magalis (Farmington, Minn.) and Aaron Rooney (Alexandria, Minn.) and sophomore David Sufficool (Fargo, N.D.) will compete on the one and three-meter boards beginning Tuesday, March 10 with pre-qualifying. Senior distance swimmer Alex Bryson (Appleton, Wis.) will compete in the 1650 free, 1000 free and 500 free.
Magalis, Rooney and Bryson are returning All-Americans. In last year's championships, Magalis place third on the one-meter and fourth on the three-meter board. Rooney was seventh on the three-meter and eighth on the one-meter. Magalis holds the school record on the one meter board for six dives (378.50). Bryson has earned All-American honors in each of the last three national championships. He currently holds the school records in the 200 free (1:39.86), 500 free (4:26.40), 1000 free (9:14.15), 1650 free (15:22.68), 200 IM (1:50.97) and 400 IM (4:03.72). He is also a member of the record holding 800 free relay.
The women's 200 medley relay of junior Kelsey Leeson (Riverton, Utah), sophomore Emily Tiedemann (Verona, Wis.), senior Abby Rasmussen (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) and first year Andrea Bryson (Appleton, Wis.) will compete in the national championships and set a new school record of 1:43.05 at the NSISC Championships on Feb. 18.
In addition, the women will swim several individual events. Leeson will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Tiedemann will swim the 100 and 200 back. Rasmussen will compete in the 200 breaststroke. Brywon, the school record holded in the 500 free (5:02.19) will swim the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle events.

Senior Becky Schmidt (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and sophomore Patience Yalartai (Bloomington, Minn.) will compete in the jumps at the 2015 championships.
Schmidt will compete in the long jump on Friday, March 13 at 2 p.m. Yalartai will compete in the long jump and triple jump. The triple jump is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
Schmidt was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) second place finisher in the long jump and had a pair of sixth place finished in the 60 and 200 meters. Yalartai placed third in both the long jump and triple jump at the conference championships.

Six wrestlers will be heading to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Junior Clint Poster (Pierz, Minn.) at 157 lbs. is making his third trip to the national championships as is junior Gabe Fogarty (Jordan, Minn.) at 165 lbs. Sophomore Austin Goergen (Caledonia, Minn.) at 285 is making his second straight championship tournament. First-time qualifiers are junior Tim Prescott (McPherson, Kan.) at 125, sophomore Mike Rhone (Benton, Pa.) at 133 and first year Larry Bomstad (Lake Lillian, Minn.) at 149.
The Huskies are coming off a second place finish at the NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional Tournament where Poster and Goergen won regional titles. Poster is a two-time All-American and ranked number one in the nation at 157 lbs. He is undefeated with a 36-0 record and a  two-time All-American. Goergen is 30-1 this season with 15 pins and placed sixth at the 2014 NCAA championships.
Fogarty is a two-time All-American, having placed seventh at the 2013 and 2014 NCAA championships.Â
