#4/5 St. Cloud State suffers 5-2 setback against Colorado College

The #4/5 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (17-5-0, 9-3-0 NCHC) suffered a 5-2 loss to NCHC rival Colorado College (5-17-0, 3-9-0 NCHC) on Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Huskies and it was SCSU's first loss since Dec. 5 against Omaha at the HBNHC.
Colorado College opened the game's scoring at 3:08 of the first period with a marker by Teemu Kivihaime. SCSU's David Morley replied at the 7:58 mark of the first period with his goal that was assisted by Ethan Prow. The goal was Morley's ninth of the season and his 24th point of the year for SCSU.
The assist pushed Prow's totals to 22 points and he is now tied with Kalle Kossila for the team's assist lead this season with 18 apiece.
CC completed the first period with a goal by Hunter Fejes at 12:30 that made it 2-1. In the second period, Tanner Ockey charted the game winner at the 2:07, which was followed by Ben Israel's goal at 9:51 that made it 4-1. The Tigers capped their scoring at 17:45 of the second with a power play marker by Sam Rothstein.
The Huskies wrapped up the night with a power play goal of their own by Jimmy Schuldt at 6:35 of the third period. Niklas Nevalainen and Jimmy Murray each had assists on the play. This was Schuldt's fourth goal of the 2015-16 season.
SCSU outshot the Tigers 49-22 in the game and both teams had one power play goal in the game. CC was 1-3 and SCSU was 1-4 on the advantage. Charlie Lindgren was the goalie of record for SCSU with 14 saves and five goals allowed in the game, while teammate Rasmus Reijola finished the game with three saves in the final 17:42 of play. Of note, SCSU outshot the Tigers 20-3 in the third period. Jacob Nehama had 47 saves for CC in the win.

- Ethan Prow now has 83 career points during his career at SCSU, which includes 15 goals and 68 assists. He is now tied for sixth among SCSU defenders for career points along with current SCSU assistant coach Garrett Raboin, who had 83 points from 2006-10. Prow leads all NCAA DI defenseman with 18 assists and 22 points. He ranks second among DI blueliners with a 1.22 ppg average this season.
- The loss snapped an 8-game unbeaten streak for the Huskies against Colorado College. The last loss for the Huskies against CC was a 4-3 setback on Feb. 22, 2013. The last time SCSU lost a game at home against CC was a 5-2 loss on Dec. 11, 2010.
- SCSU ranks third in the nation with a 4.27 goals per game scoring average.
- SCSU ranks eighth in the nation with a 2.05 goals allowed per game average.
- The Huskies rank third in the nation with a power play rate of 28.4 (23/81) in 2015-16.
- David Morley ranks second on the team this year with 24 points (9g/15a). In his career, Morley has 46g/59a and 105 points. He ranks 25th in the all-time SCSU scoring charts behind Kelly Hultgren, who had 107 points from 1991-95.
- SCSU will play games at UMD on Jan. 15-16. The Huskies own a 61-43-8 series record against the Bulldogs, which dates back to the series opener in 1946-47 (an 8-1 win for the Huskies). SCSU is 2-3-0 in the last five outings against UMD and last year the Huskies scored a 4-2 loss (Feb. 13, 2015) and a 4-1 win (Feb. 14, 2015) in Duluth. In the last 10 games played in the series, SCSU owns a 6-4-0 series lead.
