Men’s Basketball Opens NSIC Play Hosting Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State This Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (3-5) opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play by hosting a pair of league opponents this weekend at Halenbeck Hall. The program takes on Minnesota Crookston (3-2) on Friday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. and then welcomes in Bemidji State (2-3) for a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The program is also hosting a pair of promotions this weekend as the games on Friday will be an "Holiday Sweater Contest" where fans are encouraged to wear their Christmas sweaters with prizes given to those voted as having the most holiday spirit. Saturday's game is a "Black Out" game where fans are asked to wear black to support the programs.

- The Golden Eagles are coached by Dan Weisse, who is in his third year running the program.
- Minnesota Crookston is off to a 3-2 start after back-to-back wins against Waldorf and Jamestown.
- The program plays an exhibition game against South Dakota State on Wednesday evening, Nov. 30, before making the trip to St. Cloud.
- Harrison Cleary has led the team in scoring in four of the first five games this season and currently leads the conference with his average of 21.6 points per game.
- Cleary is also shooting 54.9 percent from the field, 48.1 percent from three-point range and 94.4 percent from the charity stripe.
- He is the only current UMC player averaging in double figures.
- Chase Knickerbocker is putting up 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
- Chase Johnson is the top rebounder with his average of 5.4 per game.
- Xavier Hall leads the team with his 16 helpers
- The Beavers are coached by Mike Boschee, who is in his fifth year running the program.
- He has Bemidji State off to a 2-3 start including the current two-game winning streak over Wisconsin-Superior and Northland College.
- BSU will take on Minnesota Duluth on Friday night, Dec. 2, before heading to St. Cloud.
- The Beavers have scored 100+ points in each of the last two games.
- Freshman Joi'Vionne Green has made an immediate impact and leads the team with his average of 16.4 points per game.
- Green shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range.
- Sharif Black is also scoring in double figures at 14 points per game, while also picking up a team-high 12 assists.
- Black is an 89.5 percent free throw shooter on the campaign (17-for-19).
- Ben Best is averaging 9.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
- Peyton Dibble is putting up 6.4 points and a team-leading 4.8 rebounds per contest.
- SCSU is 26-2 all-time against Minnesota Crookston since the teams started playing against each other in the 1995-96 season.
- The Huskies have won three straight in the series including both games last season.
- St. Cloud State defeated UMC by a 97-68 score at home last season with Scottie Stone leading the way with 26 points.
- Stone also led the team to victory in the road contest against the Golden Eagles with 32 points.
- SCSU split the two games with Bemidji State last season and are 98-41 against BSU since the teams started playing against each other in 1923-24.
- The Huskies defeated BSU by an 80-62 score at home last season with Gage Davis putting up 29 points and 12 rebounds.
- Stone had his first career double-double in the home game against BSU last season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Notables
- St. Cloud State went 1-1 last week in action on the court.
- The program started the week with a 95-77 victory over Saint John's on Nov. 22.
- The win was the third straight for SCSU and that was the longest winning streak for the program since four straight wins last season (1/16 – 1/29).
- The three-game winning streak was only the fourth one of that length or longer in now the last 57 games.
- The win also snapped a two-game losing streak to Saint John's and improved the all-time record against the Johnnies to 65-47.
- The program was led to victory over STJ by Gage Davis' 21 points and 10 rebounds.
- It was his second double-double of the season and the 12th of his career.
- His 21 points was his 20th career game and the fifth time this season that he has scored at least 20 points in a game.
- Scottie Stone scored in double figures with 13 points against Saint John's
- It was the seventh time this season and his 23rd straight game in double figures.
- Mark Hall recorded 19 points for his second double figure performance of the season and the 16th of his career.
- Andy Foley set career-highs of 18 points and eight assists.
- It was the second time this season and the seventh time in his career that Foley had reached double figures.
- The Huskies shot 53.2 percent from the field in the game (33-for-62) and 60.9 percent from three-point range (14-for-23) against Saint John's.
- It was the third straight game (all wins) that SCSU had shot better than 50 percent from the field.
- The 14 made threes against the Johnnies were a season-best and two off the school record.
- The 95 points scored by SCSU was a season-high and the most for the program since 102 points against Northern State last season (2/12/16).
- The program then played and lost to Minnesota State at home by a 79-62 score in non-conference game against a conference opponent on Nov. 26.
- The program was held to 37.3 percent shooting from the field and only hit one three-pointer in 11 attempts (9.1 percent).
- The 62 points was only the second time this season and the 14th time in the last 95 games that program failed to reach 70 points.
- The point total was the lowest for SCSU since being held to 57 against Concordia St. Paul during the 2014-15 season.
- The program did win the battle of the boards for the eighth time this season and the 14th straight game with a 41-39 edge over the Mavericks.
- Davis led the team with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists.
- He has led the team in scoring in seven straight games.
- Over the last four games, Davis is 33-for-50 (66 percent) from the field and 8-for-15 (53 percent) from three-point range.
- Kurt Hall earned the first double-double of his career with career-highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
- Hall is only the fifth different SCSU player over the last two years to get a double-double (Gage Davis – 12 times, Seth Mortag – three times, Scottie Stone – one time, Eddie Alcantara – one time, Kurt Hall – one time).
- Jon Averkamp recorded 10 points against MSU.
- He has reached double figures in four games this season and 18 times in his career.
- The program, despite the home loss, is 22-12 at Halenbeck Hall since the start of the 2014-15 season.
- The Huskies get on the road next and travel to Sioux Falls and then to Southwest Minnesota State next weekend.
- The program takes on Sioux Falls on Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. and continues the road swing with a 6 p.m. contest against SMSU on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.
- SCSU lost to USF at home last season by a 98-80 score (1/30/16).
- The last time that SCSU went to Sioux Falls it was a 76-61 victory during the 2014-15 season.
- St. Cloud State is 9-2 all-time against the Cougars since the schools first meeting during the 1986-87 season.
- SCSU defeated Southwest Minnesota State by a 103-94 score at home last season.
- The 100-point performance was one of four times that SCSU reached the century mark last season.
- The last time that SCSU traveled to Marshall, Minn. was during the 2014-15 season and resulted in a 76-55 victory for the program.
- The Huskies are 40-19 all-time against the Mustangs since the programs started squaring off during the 1969-70 season.
