#3 St.Cloud State men's hockey claims 4-1 win at Baxter Arena

The #3 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (24-6-1, 14-4-1 NCHC) maintained its share of first place in the NCHC standings and also clinched home ice in the upcoming NCHC playoffs with a 4-1 victory at #11/12 Omaha on Friday, Feb. 19.
In their first appearance at Omaha's new Baxter Arena, the Huskies relied on impressive goalie play and goals in the first and third periods to bring home the victory.
In the first period, SCSU charged to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Robby Jackson at 4:33. Kalle Kossila and Will Borgen each provided assists on the goal, which was Jackson's seventh of the 2015-16 season. The assist was also Kossila's team-leading 27th helper of 2015-16.
Omaha knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal by Mason Morelli at 9:12 of the first period. Luke Nogard and Brian Cooper each had assists on the play for Omaha.
The Huskies completed the first period scoring with a marker by Jacob Benson at 15:03. This was his third goal of the season and it was assisted by Jackson and Blake Winiecki.
The assist was Jackson's second point of the night and his fifth assist of the year. Winiecki now has 10 assists on the season for the Huskies.
Late in the first period, Omaha's starting goalie Evan Weninger was briefly sidelined with an injury. He returned to start the second period after being relieved for the closing 1:35 of the first by Kirk Thompson.
Both Lindgren and Weninger were perfect in the second period as neither club was able to score. Lindgren had 12 saves in the period for SCSU, while Weninger made eight saves in the second.
In the third period, Benik padded SCSU's lead with a goal at 11:20. He was assisted on the play by David Morley and Patrick Newell. The assist was Morley's 23rd of the year and it marked Newell's 20th point of his rookie campaign.
To complete the scoring, Benik posted his second goal of the evening with an empty net effort at 19:51 of the third period. Patrick Russell issued the lone assist on the play, which made the final tally 4-1.
This was Benik's 19th goal of the season and his 55th career goal with the Huskies.
In the contest, Omaha outshot the Huskies 33-22 and this included being outshot 16-6 in the final period. Mike Richter Award candidate Charlie Lindgren was outstanding in the nets for the Huskies. He scored 32 saves in the game on the way to his NCAA leading 23rd victory.
On the power play, SCSU was 0-1 and the Huskies were a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill in the contest.

- Kossila's 92 career assists rank sixth in the team charts...just ahead of Joe Motzko, who had 90 assists from 1999-03.
- Charlie Lindgren leads NCAA goalies with 23 wins this season. His 23 wins rank third in the team records for most wins in a season. The team records for wins in a season was set by Scott Meyer with 25 in 2000-01.
- Lindgren also has 44 career wins in the nets, which ranks 4th in the team recordbook.
- Kalle Kossila ranks 7th in the nation for most assists per game at 0.87 and Ethan Prow ranks 9th at 0.85.
