St. Cloud State baseball sweeps Dordt on Feb. 27

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (5-0) chalked up a doubleheader sweep against Dordt College on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn. Â In the first game, the Huskies charted a 5-1 victory and then capped the sunny day in Minnesota with a 2-1 win in the second game.
In game one, the Huskies rallied in the top of the fourth with three runs to gain a 3-0 lead. Â An error by Dordt and a single by Zak Hoffman helped the Huskies bring around runs scored by Alex Naasz, Cody Rutledge and Brandon Arnold.
In the top of the sixth, Naasz scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Â In the top of the ninth inning, Rutledge tapped a sacrifice fly to score Hoffman and made the score 5-0. Â Dordt scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the final 5-1.
On the mound, Reese Gregory pitched 7.0 innings and had seven strikeouts to each his second win of the year. Â He only allowed two hits and no runs in the game for SCSU.
In the nightcap, Sheldon Miks picked up his second win with 5.0 innings of relief work. Â He allowed just two hits on the day and had four strikeouts. Â Kevin Bolder started the game for SCSU and went 4.0 inning with one run allowed, five strikeouts and two hits allowed.
SCSU scored one run in the second inning and then charted the go ahead run in the bottom of the fourth to ice the game. Reese Gregory and Zach Metzger each had two hits in the game while Zach Hoffmann and Cody Rutledge each had runs for SCSU.
The Huskies will continue their 2016 season with a game in Tucson, Ariz. against Malone University on March 7. Â
