SCSU men's hockey falls 3-2 at Miami on Feb. 6

The #3 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (23-6-1, 13-4-1 NCHC) saw its seven game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday, Feb. 6 with a 3-2 loss at Miami University (11-13-3, 6-10-2 NCHC) in Oxford, Ohio.
This marked SCSU's first loss since a 5-2 setback against Colorado College on Jan. 9 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Â SCSU opened the game's scoring in the first period but a three goal flurry by the Redhawks in the second period sealed the deal for Miami.
In the first period, SCSU gained a 1-0 lead with an even-strength goal by Jimmy Schuldt at 18:15. Â He was assisted on the play by Ethan Prow and Patrick Newell. Â The goal was Schuldt's seventh of the 2015-16 season. Â This was also Prow's 23rd assist of the year and his 90th career point in the cardinal and black.Â
Miami broke into the scoring column in the second period with a goal by Josh Melnick at 5:54 on assists from Grant Hutton and Louie Belpedio. Â Sean Kuraly pushed the score to 2-1 with a goal at 7:16 of the second with a solo assist to Justin Greenberg. Â To complete the MU rally, Kiefer Sherwood made it 3-1 with his goal at 10:31 of the second. Â Jack Roslovic and Kuraly each had assists on the play for the Redhawks.
The Huskies ended the period's scoring with Patrick Russell's 15th goal of the year at 13:22. Â Mikey Eyssimont and Kalle Kossila each had assists on the play for SCSU. Â This was Kossila's 26th assist of the year and Eyssimont's 13th helper of 2015-16.
Both teams skated to a 0-0 draw in the third period as the Huskies pulled goalie Charlie Lindgren in the closing minute of play but were unable to convert with the extra attacker. Â
In the game, SCSU was outshot 29-23. Â Lindgren made 26 saves in the game while Jay Williams earned the win for MU with 21 saves. Â On the power play, SCSU was 0-3 and Miami was 0-4 in the contest.
The Huskies will now have a week off on Feb. 12-13 before returning to the ice with a series at Omaha on Feb. 19-20.
