St. Cloud State Men's Hockey names 2016-17 team captains

St. Cloud State University men's hockey coach Bob Motzko has announced that senior forward Ben Storm and sophomore defenseman Jimmy Schuldt have been have been selected as team captains and junior defenseman Nathan Widman has been picked as an alternate captain for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
"These three players have established themselves as team leaders during their tenure at St. Cloud State," Motzko said. "We have enjoyed a strong tradition of student-athlete leadership in our program…the type of person who leads by example on the ice, in the locker room and in the classroom.
"Without a doubt all three of our 2016-17 captains will carry on the tradition of leadership that has helped to consistently placed us among the nation's top NCAA Division I programs . They know what a privilege it is to wear the St. Cloud State jersey and they have also gained the respect of their teammates and coaches."
Storm will begin his fourth season with the Huskies in 2016-17. A draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche, Storm is a forward from Laurium, Mich. He scored two goals and five assists for the Huskies in 2015-16. In his career, Storm has notched four goals and nine assists at SCSU. He is a two-time All-NCHC Academic Award recipient.
A member of the 2016 All-NCHC Rookie team, Schuldt was also selected to the All-College Hockey News Rookie squad in 2016. A member of the 2016 All-NCHC Academic team, Schuldt played in 41 games during his freshman season with 10 goals and 16 assists. A resident of Minnetonka, Minn. Schuldt led the Huskies in 2015-16 with 95 blocks and a +31 on the plus/minus.
Widman served as a team alternate captain in 2015-16, was named to the 2016 All-NCHC Academic team and was selected as a 2016 NCHC Scholar Athlete award winner. Widman (Naperville, Ill.) has been a two year standout on defense for the Huskies with 75 blocks, one goal and 10 assists to his credit in 2015-16. In two seasons at SCSU, Widman has posted three goals and 16 assists.
The Huskies completed their 2015-16 season with a 31-9-1, 17-6-1 NCHC record. The 2016 NCHC Frozen Faceoff champions, St. Cloud State was the top seed at the 2016 NCAA Division I West Regional. The Huskies were ranked #5 in the final NCAA Division I polls in 2015-16 and they have earned four consecutive NCAA tournament bids in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
