#4/6 St. Cloud State gains 5-4 overtime victory over Alaska

Nick Poehling's third goal of the season provided #4/6 St. Cloud State University men's hockey (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) with a 5-4 overtime victory over the University of Alaska (0-3-1, 0-0-0 WCHA) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The goal by Nick Poehling capped a roller coaster evening of hockey before a Celebrate St. Cloud State crowd of 4,048 at the HBNHC. He was assisted on the play by brother Jack Poehling and Judd Peterson at the 2:06 mark of the OT session.
SCSU opened the game's scoring at 5:07 of the first period with a power play goal by Jimmy Schuldt, which included assists from Robby Jackson and Mikey Eyssimont. Schuldt has now scored goals in each of SCSU's games this season and currently leads the club with four goals and he is tied among the nation's top scorers with seven points this season.
UAF charged back late in the first period with a goal by Kylar Hope at 18:34. The Nanooks took a 2-1 lead at 18:06 of the second period with a goal by Ross Heidt.
The UAF lead stood until 1:12 of the third period as Jackson tied the game with his second goal of the year on assists from Schuldt and Jon Lizotte. The Huskies then nabbed a 3-2 lead at 8:41 with a goal by Jacob Benson (his second of the year) on assists from Clark Kuster and Luke Jaycox. The assists were the first point of the collegiate careers for Kuster and Jaycox.
The Nanooks replied at 10:58 of the third period with a power play marker by Tristan Thompson to tie the game at 3-3. Another goal by Heidt at 16:56 of the thid provided UAF with a 4-3 margin before Ryan Poehling tied the contest with his first goal of the year at 18:11. The first round NHL pick by the Canadiens was assisted on the goal by Jack Ahcan and Eyssimont.
The goal sent the game into OT, which was capped by Nick Poehling's GWG at 2:06.
The Huskies outshot the Nanooks 34-26 in the game as rookie netminder David Hrenak charted his first collegiate victory for SCSU. He made 22 saves in the game, while UAF's Anton Martinsson had 29 saves in the game. On the power play, SCSU was 1-5 and UAF was 1-4.
SCSU has now won three consecutive games and will continue its season on Oct. 20-21 with a pair of home games against perennial college hockey power house Boston College at the HBNHC.
