#2/3 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey scores 5-2 win over #13 Boston College

The #2/3 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) rallied once again to gain a big 5-2 win over #13 Boston College (1-2-1, 0-0-0 HE) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday, Oct. 20 in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 in the second period before they rolled out five unanswered goals to post the win over BC. This marked the first time that SCSU has scored a victory over the Eagles and it was also the first time these two teams met on the ice in St. Cloud.
In the first period, Boston College's Logan Hutsko scored the opening shot with a power play marker at 6:09. BC's Chris Brown pushed his squad's lead to 2-0 with a goal at 4:10 of the second. The game's tide then turned as the Huskies dominated on both ends of the rink to bring home the victory.
SCSU's first goal was credited to rookie Kevin Fitzgerald, who scored at 10:48 of the second with assists from Jimmy Schuldt and Ryan Poehling. This was Fitzgerald's first goal as a Husky and it also marked the fourth consecutive game that Schuldt has scored a point for SCSU.
Jack Poehling tied the game at 12:10 of the second period with his third goal of the season. He was assisted on the play by Judd Peterson and Will Borgen. This was Peterson's fifth assist of the year and he is now tied for the team's assist lead along with Ryan Poehling and Schuldt.
SCSU's Jack Ahcan then added the game winner at 7:18 of the third period with a power play goal, which was his first goal of the 2017-18 campaign. Teammate Blake Lizotte and Ryan Poehling added assists on the play, which was also Blake Lizotte's first college point.
The Huskies' Robby Jackson added an insurance goal at 13:22 of the third period with a power play goal. Schuldt chalked up the assist on the play, which was his fifth helper of the year and Jackson's third goal of the year. Of note, Schuldt leads the team and ranks second among NCAA DI players with nine points this season in four games played.
To cap the evening, the Huskies added their third empty net goal of the season at 19:29 of the third period. Nick Poehling scored the goal, which included assists from Will Borgen and Blake Lizotte. Nick Poehling's goal was his fourth of the year and it also extended his goal scoring streak to three games.
In the nets, SCSU's Ryan Smith had 18 saves in the game as the Huskies outshot the Eagles 47-20. Ryan Edquist made 42 saves in the game for BC. On the power play, SCSU was 2-of-9 and BC was 1-of-3.
The Huskies and Eagles will complete the weekend series at the HBNHC with a 7:07 p.m. puck drop on Saturday, Oct. 21.
