Volleyball Sweeps Minnesota Crookston, 3-0

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 NSIC) continued the hot start to the 2017 campaign with a 3-0 road sweep of Minnesota Crookston (3-7, 0-2 NSIC) on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Lysaker Gymnasium. The team has now bettered their win total from last season. The program won by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-17 over the Golden Eagles.
Senior Nicole Miller tied for the team lead with nine kills. She also hit at a .310 clip and picked up 14 digs. Sophomore Marah Mulso tied for the team lead with nine kills and had a .510 hitting percentage plus two blocks. Senior Becca Gruber recorded seven kills. Junior Krista Kuglin picked up seven kills plus three blocks. Senior Kayla Crane led the team with her 23 assists. Freshman Maddy Torve totaled 15 assists. Sophomore Clara Krenz had team-highs of 18 digs and three service aces. Freshman Taylor Olstad recorded nine digs. For the match, SCSU recorded 44 kills, 64 digs, 42 assists and eight blocks.
In the first set the team was led to the 25-21 victory by three kills from Miller, Gruber, junior Micah Nier and Kuglin.
The second set saw Abby Templin picked up four kills in the 25-14 win.
The third set was led by three kills from Miller, Mulso and Kuglin in the 25-17 victory.
"I was very impressed with the way our team carried out the game plan today," said head coach Chad Braegelmann". "We served very aggressive and I think we made them uncomfortable with in-service errors. Our hitters and setters did a fantastic job in connecting and minimizing errors and that gave us a chance in each of the three sets. Now it's on to Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday"
The St. Cloud State volleyball team continues NSIC play with a trip to Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. The program then returns home next weekend to host Augustana on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. and Wayne State on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
