
#24 St. Cloud State baseball sweeps UW-Parkside at US Bank Stadium

In game one, the Huskies survived a rollercoaster battle to gain the 9-8 win in extra innings. Â SCSU scored two runs in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead only to have UWP charge back to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Â The Huskies rallied once again with one run in the fourth to cut the gap to 4-3.
In the fifth inning, UWP added another run to make it 5-3. Â In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, SCSUÂ chalked up solo runs to make the tally 5-5. Â As the game headed into extra inning, UWP ignited for three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take charge at 8-5.
SCSUÂ then claimed the victory with a thrilling eighth inning rally. Â Mitch Mallek singled to score Ethan Ibarra and advance Jordan Joseph to second. Â Caeden Harris issued the game winner with a three RBI double that scored teammates Jackson Goplen, Mallek and Joseph.
In the game, Harris, Joseph and Mallek all had three hits for the Huskies, while Goplen and Mat Meyer each had two hits.  Shanon Ahern was the pitcher of record for SCSU with 3.1 innings of relief work in the game.  He allowed just three hits and had three strikeouts.  Dominic Austing started the game for SCSU and pitched 4.0 innings with six hits and four runs allowed.  Austing's totals included three strikeouts.
In game two, Kyle Boser stepped into the spotlight with a sterling complete game four hit shutout. Â He posted two strikeouts in the game for the Huskies.
The Huskies lone run was scored in the sixth inning when Mallek doubled to score Ibarra.  The run proved to be all the Huskies needed to gain the victory.
SCSUÂ will now embark on its annual spring break trip. Â This year, the Huskies will play a series of games in the Tucson, Ariz. area. Â SCSUÂ is slated to start the trip with a 3:30 p.m. game against Ottawa University on Mar. 2. Â Fans can follow the games on the KVSC Sports Stream with Thomas Breach on the call from AZ.
