St. Cloud State University men's basketball coach Matt Reimer has announced that Casey Bruggeman will join his staff as an assistant coach for the Huskies.
Bruggeman most recently served as an assistant coach with the men's basketball program at the University of Mary in 2017-18 and was a graduate assistant coach with the Marauders during the 2016-17 season.
Â
"Casey (Bruggeman) is a tremendous worker with lots of energy and enthusiasm for the game," Reimer said. "He will be a huge asset for our program and I could not be more excited to add Casey to our coaching staff here at St. Cloud State."
Â
At Mary, Bruggeman worked with all aspects of the program including individual workouts, game planning, scouting opponents and recruiting.
Bruggeman will join an SCSU program that finished the 2017-18 season with a 24-9, 17-5 NSIC record. The Huskies advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 NSIC tournament and also qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division II Central Region tournament, where they advanced to the regional semifinals.
"I am very excited to get back to Minnesota, an area I know well, and to a program at SCSU that has a great tradition and has enjoyed recent success, " Bruggeman said.Â
Â
A 2016 graduate of Concordia College (Moorhead), Bruggeman played guard for the Cobbers' basketball team under the leadership of head coach Rich Glas. A career-ending injury led Bruggeman into the role of a student-assistant during his final year as an undergraduate at Concordia-College. Â
Â
He is a native of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota graduated from Concordia with a degree in mathematics education.
Â
Bruggeman will replace Mahmoud Abdelfattah on the SCSU staff. Abdelfattah left the Huskies at the start of the 2017-18 season to join the staff of the Rio Grand Valley Vipers of the NBCA G League. Former SCSU head coach Kevin Schlagel held the position during the 2017-18 on an interim basis.
