On the Road with the Huskies: Zach’s NCAA Tourney Blog Day One
5/16/2018 11:15:00 AM | Baseball
The St. Cloud State baseball team is back in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, which means the regional blog series is also back! My name is Zach Siggelkow and I will be providing SCSU baseball fans with an inside look of our trip in Arkansas. The Huskies' first game of the tournament is on Thursday, May 17 at 8:30 PM vs. Central Oklahoma.
Our first day of travel, much like last season's first day at the regional, was very eventful to say the least.
If you have been following along on our Twitter and Facebook pages, you know that the Huskies took one of the most unique journeys to date from Minnesota down to Arkansas.

As you can see from the map above, there were four different routes the Huskies took in order to reach their final destination of Little Rock, Arkansas. The originally scheduled plan was for everyone to make the 9:30 flight from Minneapolis to Chicago, then to Little Rock. Out of the 30 members on the trip, 13 were able to successfully make it through the security check in a timely matter to make the Chicago flight. From Chicago, those 13 members made it to Little Rock with no issues.
Now is where things get interesting.
I am not a huge math guy but I do know we had 17 Huskies left over that still had to make it to Little Rock. The fine folks at American Airlines were understanding of the situation at hand so they allowed 15 of the guys to fly from Minneapolis to Dallas for a brief layover before heading into Little Rock.
The two remaining Huskies, our radio personality, Thomas Breach and athletic trainer, Grant Den Herder made the trek to our nation's capital, Washington DC before their arrival into Little Rock.

Once the Chicago boys and first group of Dallas boys were reunited, they found the time to mix in a quick adventure while waiting for the last group flying in from Dallas on a later flight.
Mitch Mallek, Ryan Wesely, Caeden Harris and myself were exploring the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport before stumbling upon multiple signs with a giant arrow that stated "MASTER PLAN". If you know your Huskies, you know that we are an intuitive bunch and if there are two words that will fire up the boys, they're "master plan." We ended up arriving in a conference room inside of the airport that included a group of businessmen that gave us the low down on the improvements and renovations that are coming for the airport within the next 10-30 years. Even though school is out, soaking up knowledge never sleeps. Don't be surprised if you see Caeden Harris running his own airport within the next 5-10 years.
After learning the master plan, we met back up with the remaining guys from Dallas and made the trip from Little Rock into El Dorado.
However… that still leaves us with two missing Huskies. Breach and Grant had an eventful day of travel that will be best explained in pictures.
After another eventful and memorable day, the Huskies are back together and safe in Arkansas. Stay tuned for more updates on the trip through scsuhuskies.com where more blogs and game stories will be posted.
