St. Cloud State Baseball ranks among NCAA stat leaders in 2018

The St. Cloud State University baseball enjoyed another season of success in 2018. The Huskies charted a solid 30-17 overall record and a 21-8 record in the always rugged NSIC.
SCSU advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Regional tournament for the fourth consecutive season under the leadership of head coach Pat Dolan, who now owns a 437-156-1 career in 11 seasons with the Huskies. His teams have earned eight NCAA tournament bids since 2010.
At the national level in 2018, the Huskies ranked third in the nation with a walks allowed per nine inning rate of 2.70. SCSU also ranked ninth among NCAA DII teams with a strikeout to walk ratio of 3.02. In the NSIC, the Huskies ranked first with a team batting average of .316 (27th among all NCAA DII teams).
Individually, junior pitcher Dominic Austing was impressive this season. He ranked seventh among all NCAA DII pitchers (and first among NSIC pitchers) with a walks allowed per nine inning rate of 1.03. Austing's WHIP rating of 0.89 ranked eighth among NCAA DII pithcers and his strikeout to walk ratio also ranked ninth at the NCAA DII level. Austing's earned run average of 1.94 ranked 13th in the nation.
A fun fact to note regarding Austing. In the games that he pitched for the Huskies against 2018 MLB draft picks Gus Varland of Concordia-St. Paul and Augustana's Jacob Blank, Austing was on the mound for a 2-1 win over Augustana and a 4-1 win over CSP.
Another stat of note this season belong to junior first baseman Mat Meyer, who ranked as the 16th toughest batter in all of NCAA DII baseball (first in the NSIC) to strikeout with a 15.7 rating.
"We were able to battle through injuries and some crazy weather this spring," SCSU coach Pat Dolan said. "These numbers attest to our level of success in 2018, and it also points to the great potential this team has for the upcoming season in 2019. We have an outstanding group of veterans returning to the roster next spring and our recruit class promises to be a strong one."
