
St. Cloud State Baseball Set for Series with Northern State at U.S. Bank Stadium

Huskies will play four-game set against Wolves, first three will be NSIC contests
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (3-4, 2-1 NSIC) will continue conference play this weekend with a four-game set against Northern State (0-0, 0-0 NSIC) this weekend on Thursday and Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The first three games of the series will ben conference contests, while the series finale will be a nonconference game.

US BANK STADIUM HISTORY
SCSU will play at U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, for the second consecutive season and fifth time overall since 2017. SCSU is 8-2 all-time in 10 games at "The Bank". Previously, the Huskies occasionally played at the H.H.H. Metrodome, the previous home of the Vikings and the MLB's Minnesota Twins, over three decades, including 11+ games every season from 1984-87. The Huskies will play a three-game series with Bemidji State at The Bank on March 14-15 later this season.

FRESHMAN SHINES
Freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) has shined in his first two weeks of collegiate baseball, hitting .583 (7-of-12) with a home run, five RBI, six runs while drawing a team-leading seven walks. Cahoon was elite at the plate for the Huskies in a series split with Wayne State (Feb. 20-22), hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a whooping 1.577 OPS with one home run, five RBI, four runs and six walks. Cahoon reached safely in 11-of-16 plate appearances on the weekend for a .688 on-base percentage with five hits and six walks while adding one sacrifice fly. The Husky freshman hit his first career home run in an 8-6 loss on Friday in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter.
Cahoon also played exceptional defense at first base and left field, producing 17 put outs with a 1.000% fielding percentage. Among NSIC leaders, Cahoon ranks second in on-base percentage (.700), third in batting average (.583) and fifth in OPS (1.533).
RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF
After leading SCSU with 29 extra base hits in 2025, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) opened the 2026 season hitting .292 (7-of-24) with a 1.060 OPS, four extra base hits and five RBI in the first two weeks of the season. In SCSU's season-opening series at Missouri Western (Feb. 13, 15), Castro had a triple and double in the first game of the season and a home run in a 5-3 win on Feb. 15.
NOTES FROM THE MOUND
A trio of Huskies teamed up to get SCSU's first win of the season, a 5-3 victory over Missouri Western on Feb. 15. Sophomore A.J. Price (Neenah,Wis.) earned his first collegiate win in his 19th appearance and third career start, pitching 5.0 innings with one earned run and three strikeouts. His five-inning outing is a career long, surpassing a four-inning start against Concordia-St. Paul on April 9, 2025. Freshman Brayden Simones (Sartell, Minn.) made his collegiate debut and earned the save with four strikeouts over 1.2 innings.
Senior Kahler Key (Onalaska, Wis.) came on in relief and pitched effectively over five innings while earning his first collegiate career win in an 8-7 win over Wayne State (Feb.), allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Key produced career-highs in innings pitched (5.0) and strikeouts (nine). The Husky senior's nine strikeouts are the fourth-most in a single game this season by an NSIC pitcher. Key has pitched well in both of his relief appearances this season and currently leads SCSU in ERA (2.45) and strikeouts (15).
