
Huskies Hang 11 in Both Games of Doubleheader Sweep over Northern State

Nine run inning seals first game, Brassield and Key make strong starts on the mound
GAME 1 – SCSU 11, NSU 3
SCSU took an early lead in the game with a run in the top of the first inning but then was chasing for the rest of the game after giving up three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Huskies pulled with one run with an RBI single from senior Nick Ibrahim (Woodbury, Minn.) and then took control of the game with a nine-run inning in the sixth.
SCSU loaded the bases and then put up the nine-spot on five RBI singles and a wild pitch. Getting RBI hits for the Huskies was freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.), redshirt senior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico), redshirt freshman Max Robinson (St. Michael, Minn.), redshirt junior Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) and redshirt junior Josh McGuin (Toronto, Ontario).
After giving up three runs in the first, SCSU starter senior Bryce Brassfield (Gilbert, Ariz.) settled in and lasted the full seven innings, completing his second career complete game. The Husky senior allowed three runs, all earned on eight hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Brassfield had three 1-2-3 innings, struck out the side in the fourth and retired eight straight batters between the second and fifth innings.

- Brassfield matched a career-high with eight strikeouts, the third time he's punched out eight batters in a game while logging his second career complete game (Southwest Minnesota State, March 15, 2025).
- Cahoon continued his red-hot start to the season with his third two-hit game while extending his hitting streak to five games. He also recorded his first career double in the game.
- Konkol recorded his second multi-RBI game of the season while extending his hitting streak to five games.
Northern State scored the game's first run in the second inning, but from then on out, it was all Huskies. SCSU scored in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings with four-run innings in the fourth and seventh to seal the run-rule victory. Senior Kahler Key (Onalaska, Wis.) was sharp for the third consecutive appearance and in his first start of the season, pitching six innings while only allowing one run on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
In the fourth inning, Cahoon stayed hot with his first career triple to score senior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) and then junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) followed with a double to score him. Ibrahim added an RBI single and McGuin drove a run in with a walk. Redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) added two more on a single in the fifth.
SCSU put the game away in the seventh with another RBI single from Ibrahim, followed by a sacrifice fly from Robinson and a two-RBI single from Konkol.

SCSU and Northern State will finish its four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 6:35 p.m. CT. The first game will be a conference game followed by a nonconference game.
