SCSU extends winning streak over Northern State to 19 games
GAME 1 – SCSU 15, NSU 8
Northern State scored the game's first two runs before SCSU scored seven straight runs, scoring in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) got the scoring started with a moonshot, deep home run to left field in the second inning. The Huskies score two more on an RBI single from redshirt freshman Max Robinson (St. Michael, Minn.) and a sacrifice fly from redshirt junior Hayden Frank (St. Michael, Minn.). SCSU then extended its lead to 4-2 with an RBI single from redshirt senior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) in the third inning.
SCSU scored three more runs in the fourth inning with redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) knocking in two with a single followed by another RBI single from freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.). Northern State would then chase SCSU starting pitcher sophomore AJ Price (Neenah, Wis.) with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth inning to pull within one run at 7-6, but that would be as close as they would get with the Huskies extending its lead back to four runs in the seventh inning.
Moreno continued his hot stretch at the plate with two more RBI on a double in the seventh inning rally, followed by a sacrifice fly from senior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) to make the score 10-6. In the eighth inning, Robinson added his second RBI single of the game to extend the lead to 11-6.
