ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud State University baseball's Dom Austing (Sauk Rapids, Minn. / St. Cloud Cathedral) and softball's Brooke Bowlin (Chaska, Minn. / Holy Family) have been selected as the Wolter Kluwer Athletes of the Month for April.
Austing posted a perfect 3-0 record during the month of April as scored wins over Concordia-St. Paul, Bemidji State and Minot State. He pitched in 21.0 innings and tallied 27 strikeouts with a 1.29 ERA. He allowed only three earned runs during the month.
He helped lead the Huskies to a 13-6 record over the month in NSIC action. Austing is a resident of Sauk Rapids and a graduate of St. Cloud Cathedral High School.
Bowlin was key to the Huskies success during the month of April, as she helped her team finish in a tie for third place in the NSIC standings and finish the regular season with an overall record of 40-14 with a 22-8 mark in NSIC play. In 30 conference games, Bowlin led St. Cloud State with a .396 batting average with 40 hits in 101 plate appearances for the Huskies. Of those 40 hits, two were doubles and one was a home run for the lefty slapper, who also recorded an impressive .446 slugging percentage during the month of April and compiled an on base percentage (OBP) of .430 as well.
However, it wasn't just Bowlin's numbers at the plate that garnered the first Athlete of the Month honor of her career. In the field, Bowlin committed just one error in 65 attempts and made several diving catches, earning her the NSIC Gold Glove Award in left field. She was also a force to be reckoned with on the bases. During the month of April, Bowlin was 19-20 on stolen base attempts and broke the program record for single-season stolen bases (36) against Upper Iowa on April 19. More impressively, Bowlin was the lone Husky to earn multiple honors from the NSIC at the conclusion of the regular season, as she earned both Gold Glove and Second Team All-Conference honors for her play in 2019.
