St. Cloud State women's hockey (2-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) took Bemidji State (1-1-0, 1-1-0 WCHA) to overtime for the second straight night but fell 3-2 in Friday's series finale. The Huskies' Jenniina Nylund and Emma Gentry each scored their second goals of the set. SCSU earned three points during the two-game tilt with Bemidji State following their overtime win on Thursday, placing them in a tie for third place in the WCHA as of the completion of Friday's game.
Nylund opened the scoring at the 15:36 mark of the second period, leading a two-on-one rush and taking the puck to the net herself with a wicked wrister that rattled off the crossbar and fell in behind the Beavers' goaltender. Bemidji State's Clair DeGeorge answered a few minutes later to tie the game at one.
Bemidji State put themselves in front for the first time during the series at the 11:57 mark of the third as Ellie Moser scored. Minutes later with 7:23 to go, Taylor Lind ripped a slapshot from the right circle off the goaltender and Gentry poked the rebound past the tender in the scrum to bring things back to even at two. Olivia Cvar earned the second assist on the goal along with Lind.
Just as the series opener did, the finale went to overtime, where BSU's DeGeorge scored the game-winner 50 seconds into the extra period.
BSU outshot St. Cloud State 28-25. The Huskies were blocked 25 times throughout the evening, but again played a dominant game within the faceoff circle. Laura Kluge won 62.5% of her chances, going 10-6 to propel her team to a 28-22 advantage. SCSU's penalty kill eliminated two Beavers power plays, but the Huskies' own power play unit was unable to score on their lone chance.
St. Cloud State's second half schedule has yet to be released by the WCHA, and the Huskies are off next weekend as the rest of the league continues competition.
