St. Cloud State women's hockey (3-9-1, 3-9-1 WCHA) takes a short two-game road trip this weekend for a series at No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth (6-4-0, 6-4-0 WCHA). Friday's puck drop at Amsoil Arena will be at 6:07 p.m. CST while Saturday's game will begin at 3:07 p.m. CST.
Minnesota-Duluth holds a 73-14-8 advantage in the all-time series. SCSU was swept on the road in their last matchup against No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth on December 4 and 5. The Huskies were shut out 4-0 on Friday and fell 5-1 Saturday. UMD outshot SCSU 93-32, with 12 of the Huskies' shots coming in the third period of Saturday's game.
Scouting the Huskies
St. Cloud State currently stands at 3-9-1 on the season, good for sixth in the WCHA standings, having already surpassed their WCHA win total from a year ago. The Huskies hold a one-point lead over Bemidji State and trail Minnesota State by two and a half points. The Huskies were swept by No. 1 Wisconsin last weekend. Less than 24 hours after being shut out 10-0, St. Cloud State rallied to lead the top team in the nation on two occasions and hold the game tied until the closing minute where the visiting Badgers scored a pair of quick goals to defeat SCSU 4-2. Jenniina Nylund and McKenna Wesloh scored the Huskies' two goals, while Emma Polusny (Mound, MN) piled up 41 saves in Saturday's effort. St. Cloud State's penalty kill sits at 13th in the country at 89.2%.
Nylund leads the Huskies with seven points on the season, as she and Emma Gentry share the team lead with four goals. Olivia Cvar and Klara Hymlarova each have a team-high four assists this year.
Scouting the Bulldogs
No. 6Â UMD stands at 6-4-0 on the season after splitting a pair of 1-0 road overtime thrillers with Bemidji State last weekend. Senior forward Anna Klein leads the way for the Bulldogs with seven goals and five assists for 12 points, while junior Gabbie Hughes leads the team in assists with eight along with a goal for nine points. Junior goaltender Emma Soderberg is third in the nation in both goals against (1.03) and save percentage (.960).
