Huskies score short-handed goal in third period to force overtime, earn point in NCHC standings
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 1/1 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (9-3-0, 3-1-0 NCHC) fell to No. 11 Omaha in overtime, 3-2, on Saturday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies controlled the pace of the game for much of the contest, outshooting the Mavericks, 45-29, but were unable to pull away from Omaha to close the series. St. Cloud State managed to score a short-handed goal, its fifth of the season, with just over five minutes remaining in the game to force overtime and earn a point towards the NCHC standings.

Momentum swung in the Huskies favor with senior forward Kevin Fitzgerald's (Hinsdale, Ill.) short-handed third period goal, but Omaha was the one who found the back of the net in the overtime period. Taylor Ward scored the game-winning goal 2:46 into the 3-on-3 overtime period to earn the win for the Mavericks.

- Freshman defenseman Jack Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored his second goal of the season in the first period.
- Freshman defenseman Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka, Minn.) and senior forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.) each recorded an assist in the game.
- St. Cloud State held the Mavericks scoreless in the first period to continue its streak of not allowing a goal in the game's first period in 11 consecutive games to open the season. In the first 20 minutes, the Huskies have outscored their opponents, 16-0, this season.
- Fitzgerald's short-handed goal was his first career shorthanded goal, and St. Cloud State's fifth of the season.
- Fitzgerald extended his team-lead in points with two, now totaling 16 on the season (six goals, 10 assists).
- The senior forward recorded his fifth multi-point game of the season and the 20th of his career.
- Graduate goalie David Hrenak (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) recorded 26 saves in the game, the fourth time this season and 54th time in his career he has recorded at least 25 saves.
